All Boxing fans remember the date of Oct. 30, 1974 as being the date of the Famous "Rumble in the Jungle" This was the Heavyweight Championship fight where it would be Ali's attempt to regain his lost title against a seemingly Invincible young Champion. A 7-1 favorite, Foreman anticipated knocking Ali out in two or three rounds. But "The Greatest" improvised his Rope-A-Dope, leaning against the ropes while Foreman punched himself out. In the eighth round, Ali knocked out the champ.
What most don't know is a GSD by the name of "DAGO" had a major impact on the event.
The suffering, poverty ridden people of Zaire loved Ali and followed him everywhere. They would always chant, 'Ali boma-ye!' which means 'Ali, kill him!' during the fight the deafening chant 'Ali boma-ye!' is all anyone could hear.
The reason the Zaire people hated Foreman so much is because When George Foreman came to Zaire, he came with his German shepherd, "DAGO". That was a no-no because it was a reminder of Zaire's colonial past where the police kept the crowds in line and hurt them, with German shepherds. So they despised him.
Below is a link that shows a picture of George Foreman's "DAGO"

So what is your point. Are you admiring Dago? Or just trying to stir up controversy?

Interesting story. By "First North American Sch3 Champion" do they mean he was the first to acheive a Sch3 here in North America?

Hilarious pic of Heinz Matzen! I wouldn't be surprised if he still had those pants! You never know when they might come back in style, eh? Lets not forget George Foreman donated quite a bit of money to our sport some years back. His sponsorship interest may have been somewhat short-lived, but it was appreciated at the time.

animules,
Heinz Matzen won the first two North American Championships. He was one of the pioneers to help bring Schutzhund about in the US. He was involved in the forming of WDA in its begining years. I have known Heinz and trained with him for the last 3-4 years. The guy is a wealth of knowledge. I have seen him do things with dogs that was just flat out amazing. He is currently mentoring me in Schutzhund and helping to refine my helper work.
