Purchased GSD in USA from Hungary, want to register with AKC now, however back of hungarian yellow registration papers where it lists changes of the ownership, one slot is where the breeder signed and then the other slot is the kennel that owned them in hungary, the person I purchased dogs from here in the USA is not listed anywhere on papers.  How do I get my name on papers?  Do i just write it in?  I'm waiting to hear from both the USA owner and the Breeder in Hungary.  Would love tohear if anyone else has had the similar problem.

It's not a major problem unless the breeder you've purchased from is questionable concerning how they deal with people (which unfortunately seems all the more common every day). The back of your foreign registration papers should show a trail of official owners from the breeder to the most recent owner, you.
The person/kennel you bought the dog from should have dated the back, and signed in one slot-it should show the date you purchased the dog, and yes, your information as owner should be written in. Your name/signature goes in the far right slot beside where the kennel where you purchased the dog signed. This shows a transfer of ownership. If the kennel did not sign ownership over to you, then you need to contact them and inform them they did not sign the back of your paperwork, and take it back to them for signing. Be careful trusting valuable registration paperwork to the mail system!

The next thing you have to do is take these transferred papers and send either the originals OR a notorized copy of them to the country of origin in order to get you registered as the current owner with the foreign kennel club. You will need to contact them and find out how much $ it takes to get what is called a "Beschinigung" from the Hungarian Kennel Club.  The Beschinigung (German for "Certification") is a letter where the foreign kennel club is acknowledging on its official letterhead that you are the official current owner of your dog on your dog's foreign papers. It is a required document for AKC Foreign Dog Registration-you can't AKC a foreign dog from Germany or Hungary without its Bescheinigung. Once you have the dog officially transferred into your name with the original country of registry and have obtain its Bescheinigung, THEN you can proceed to the AKC.

AKC Forgeign Dog Registration is currently $50. You will need to submit the following to the AKC for registering along with the appropriate fees and the completed Foreign Dog Registration Application:
1. Your original foreign paperwork OR a notorized copy (I prefer to send a notorized copy as to keep down the possibility of losing valuable paperwork, which is next to impossible to replace if lost!)
2. Copy of your Bescheinigung letter that you should get from the Hungarian Kennel Club-probably MET or MNJK
3. 2 Pics of your dog-one showing a full side profile (doens't have to be in stance but should show entire body, head to toe and nose to tail tip), and one showing the entire front-standing is preferred. Pics need to be large enough to show good detail to the AKC of your dog.

It can take the AKC anywhere from a 2-8 weeks to process and AKC register a foreign dog. Keep in mind if you're planning to do breeding, you also have to get your foreign dog AKC DNA profiled before you can register any progeny from this dog.

Once this process is done, all that needs to be done with future ownership(s) for such a dog is a mere AKC transfer like any other AKC registered dog-nothing HAS to be done with the foreign registry unless showing or competition is going to be done with the dog unless the new owner wants to transfer the dog's ownership into their name in the foreign country as well.

Best wishes getting your paperwork completed. This info should help.

Hi LiberalAndy,

I agree with Katjo above, but I have organizied the information and have it posted on my website.

I registered a Hungarian dog in the AKC last year.

The dog I had was registered in the MNJK, affliated with the MEOE and FCI.

I sent you email concerning those steps, since it includes the bank information of the MNJK.

Liberal Andy,

I included scans of my MNJK pedigree with the signatures on the back, so you can see what the registration I sent in looked like.  I included the letter to Judit Vall (MNJK export pedigree department) so you can see what the letter looked like that I sent with my registration and personal information.

Hope it helps you out! ~ Veronica
