OK I'll try this differently...
Do you routinely use the Bordatella Vaccine ?
if Yes, what is the youngest age you use it ? and how often ?
Which vaccine, Intranasal, or SubQ injection ?
Have you ever administered Bordatella to a dog under Stress ? and what were your results ?
Have you ever had an occurance when using Bordatella Vaccine ? and under what circumstances ?
I'm truly attempting to gather more information, I have alot of information from the internet already BUT I'm interested in hearing from people who use the vaccine in a more controled environment than a shelter.... I appreciate the time and effort that anyone is willing to give up to answer the above questions... Thank You in advance !! :-)

I no longer use the bordetella vaccine.. it's a waste of time and money since just like the lepto in the current 5 or 7 way vaccines, in that the strains currently affecting animals today are not what is in the vaccine....
When I did use it.. I gave it after 12 weeks.. Lots of dogs vaccinated and boarded subsequently came back within th enext week to be treated
The vaccine like all others could never be 100% effective
I always used the intranasal method.
Hope this helps

When I first moved to Aurora, the vet clinic I went to insisted my dog have Bordotella, or the refused to board her. They used the intranasal method.
Bloody $%^&*#@!!! rippoff artists!! My dog's vaccinations were a month or so past their 'due date' and they said they'd have to charge me extra to board the dog, because it would have to go in ISOLATION!! Yeah, never mind all the research about the vaccines being good for much longer than a year....
I decided to find another vet clinic after I took my cat in for its shots, and walked away with a bill for $185 for a minor ear problem, and NO VACCINATIONS!!
I'm pretty sure my current clinic does Bordotella as a matter of routine. I've never had to board there, so I don't k now if they insist on it.

Personally I think the Bordatella vaccine is not of much use for an adult dog, unless that dog is frequently around outside dogs and in contact with puppies. I do know that most boarding kennels insist that the dog is current on this vaccine/treatment as it will be exposed to other dogs, and let's face it-most boarding kennels rely on the honour system when asking whether the dog's vaccinations/immunizations are current.
So, I would determine the need based on the age of the dog, where he goes, who he is near, and the possibility of transmitting the disease to other dogs, especially puppies.

Yes I routinely use the bordatella vaccine. When given intranasal, it stimulates a differnt type of antibody reaction. The purpose is that the surface antibodies in the lungs are stimulated with the theory being that the organism will be attacked by the bodies defenses at the suface level (before actually incurring the disease).
Never vaccinate an animal that is compromised or undergoing stress. The result will be either poor immune reaction or if you are using a modified live vaccine, a breakdown and disease.
Many different companies make vaccines. The better ones are the ones that use pure vaccines. Most reaction you see are from the ecipient in the vaccine (not the virus part rather the carrying agent). Some vaccines give better results given a certain way, such as IM even if they are cleared for IM or SQ.
The vaccine must be maintained properly in the temperature range it was designed for. If along the way storage was too cold or too warm the vaccine is worthless. Purchase the vaccine from the best quality drug company you can and pay attention to how it arrive (at the proper temperature that will be listed on the vial.

Here the kennel/vet office will ask for the phone number, and phone your vet to verify vaccination status.

We vacinate for Bordatella. Our dogs are around many other dogs at club training and trial. Since I do not know what those dogs are exposed to or if they have been sick, I am not taking any chances. We've had idiots, that should know better, show up with dogs that were sick. Of course I will do what I need to so mine are protected.

I had to board my terriers at one time and the kennel insisted that they have the bordatella vaccine so we did. When we got home and picked the dogs up they were coughing. Took them to the vet and was told they had kennel cough. Why when they had the vaccine? Vet said they got a different strain. So why insist on the vaccine?? It doesn't make any sense so I've never boarded my dogs since. I have someone come and stay at the house, it can be more expensive than boarding but when you take vet bills into consideration I figure I'm coming out ahead and with healthier dogs.
