This question is for anyone who went to the Sieger show? I'm interested to find out if Larus von Batu was desiring of his place? What was his progeny group like? If he wasn't desiring of his placing what should the top ten have been? Any budding stars in the Young dog males???

I'll throw the first dart. Larus jumped into the VA group as a young dog. Unproven, put there by his breeder. Many say it's not correct. This year we begin to see what he can produce. He had the largest progeny group, good representation in the 18 to 24 class. Six males and five females in the top 50 of each class. That's a little better than 10%. Very respectable in my opinion. The quality is very high in the first ring. He had only one top placing male in the youth class. Normally there is a superstar or a dog dubbed superstar that catapults a male into the VA1 spot. We did not have a SG1 superstar this year. From the top 30 males from each young and youth class, there are 4 males positioned to fill their fathers legacy in the next year or so. These males are SG12 Richy Westervenn, SG13 Pascha Zellwaldrand, SG24 Ronaldo Zellergrund, SG 30 Scott Emkendorfer Park. These males now have to complete their training, survey, and produce to progress into the working class. From a performance standpoint. His work was OK. He did the exercise and passed. The crowd liked it. I thought it looked better last year. I have two of his offspring and his sister. Working ability seems to be in the family. I have good working abilities in his offspring. In the ring he was in second place for the first half of the class. Hill was very energetic and full of life in the beginning. It looked like Hill had it. A few minutes into the class and Hill was stopping every few seconds to look around. He stayed in front for quite some time with this behavior. It looked like Mr. Orschler may have made a comment or Hill's handler got the message he needed to present himself a little better, you could see Hill's handler make a little more effort to make him go. After Hill's behavior continued, Larus moved in front. From a show perspective, I have lost many a place with a dog that was not moving in the ring. I think the placement change based on Hill's performance was justified. Judging from the crowd's response, they thought so too. On the offleash and fast lap, Larus excelled. he looked like he belonged in front. The sieger title is always subject to opinion, there will be those that agree and those that do not. Given Larus' performance, pedigree, production, presence in the ring. He was awarded and not handed the Sieger title.

Dog1, How did QUENN vom LÖHER WEG appear to you? I saw some photos and a brief video clip. He did look a potential top VA in next years

HOWDEDO, There was a lot of interest in Quenn before the sieger show. Some comments were posted here on this website. There seemed to be a lot of interest in how this dog would do in the upcoming show. Quenn was the star of the Sieger show for many people. A true medium sized Zamp Thermados, but with more power/drive and superb movement. He is in my humble opinion a future Sieger. He has everything the SV says they are striving/need for in the future, superb construction, medium size[64.5]with tremendous power/substance, H/D and E/D normal [ZW 77], totally sound [correct front/back], super movement and I hear from very reliable sources, fantastic protection/bite work. Quenn also seems to be a performer and loves the ‘stadium’.In fact I thought he came into his own when presented in the Top 20 parade in main stadium, his handler held him back from the 4TH dog to highlight his superior quality, and then let him go; Quenn didn’t disappoint he truly wowed the crowd with his ‘look at me’ animation and ability to command the big stage. When he is Sieger in a few years, remember where you heard it 1st!

this is not true. larus was the third time VA and the first judge he put him in the VA class was not his breeder, it was Mr. Messler. who is a real sieger? bax was the sieger last year, and what he produced?

Most of the progeny Larus brought were mainly from litters. Specifically 17 litters were represented by 2-4 individuals per litter which is why his group was so large. They were all young dogs, no working class. It was obvious to anyone who watched the progeny group that Larus was to be given sieger since his group was given an additional time around the ring. Hill was put up front for apperances and nothing more. Everyone knew Larus was to be moved up. Politic? YES...most definately. Of the top males, Ghandi brought the best group of typey, uniform dogs very much of his type. Quirin comes from another excellent group out of Wallace (not entered) and Esko's group was also very good although he was not entered this year. Quantum's group was dissappointing but he and ghandi both brought numerous open class progeny. Quantum and Ghandi are the only correctly moving dogs in the VA group. Hill's progeny were very nice, not quite as uniform but he brought several in the open class as well. Bax' group was a joke. Erasmus' placement was entirely political as he doesn't offer anything to the breed. He does not move well and I'm shocked he wasn't whistled out of the stadium when he "gaited" around the ring, which took quite awhile for him to do. Orbit Huhngrab is a strikingly handsome LARGE dog...in fact he towers over the other males in the group. His Urma critique is incorrect. He has a steep croup, break in his topline during movement and does not move correctly but he's HUGE, Darkly colored and impressive looking. Karat's Ulk should have been kept in the VA group, he is by far a deserving top VA dog out of Ghandi. He has more promise for the breed IMHO than any of the current bottlenecked dogs do. Thanks Dog1 - Your opinion reinforces mine on this great dog. With all these great qualities, was there any reason why he ended up in the fifth spot instead of 1 or 2 in SG? or was it strictly political?

HOWDEDO, I stay away from the political analysis of dogs. The judges have a difficult task sorting all the dogs in the class and presenting the correct order. Each judges reputation is on the line each time he judges a class. The judges that don't do a good job according to the participants, may not participate under that judge again. Judges that do not attract entries are noticed. Moving on. There is some latitude rightfully bestowed on each judge to have an opinion of what he thinks is best. Additionally dogs that are campagined support the system. It would be a poor system if a dog could show up at a sieger show his first time out and win. Dogs build their reputation by showing under numerous judges. Those with the best results prior to the sieger show, should get consideration. A place is a place that day under that judge. I tend to look at groups and see which animals stand out. Historically we see some top placing dogs go by the wayside and some moderately placed dogs excell. The first ring is full of excellent dogs. There are many factors that influence a judges decision, many, are not known by the public. SG1 or SG5, you're there, you're in the spotlight. Probably SG50 too. I thought the judges did an excellent job at the end of the class identifying the top group. The class I was watching included about 30. Once the class is over, the judge has given his opinion. From this point on, it's up to the breeders to accept the decision or make one of their own based on their personal criteria.
