I have a shepherd that barks everynight from 3 am till daylight. She is driving my nuts. I was thinking about using petsafe comfort fit delux bark control collar, automaticallyadjust level of static to dogs temperment. I have tried tiring her out before it get dark. I wonder if this is humane ? please help

Is she indoors or outside?  Ours sleep in the house, crated, and are quiet at night.  If she;'s left outside that could explain the problem.   During the day when they are outside, some do wear bark collars, all are on the lowest settings and seem to work.  Except when sirens go by.....  I do not want to bother the neighbors with barking dogs as that's just not very neighborly.

I have used the bark collar you are talkeing about. Works great, dog learns that the bark is causeing the mild shock.

If the dog barks for one min. it resets so as not to just keep giveing the dog pain.

they are out at night, in kennels. I have six dogs, three inside three outside. the outside dogs have no idea what a house is. I guess the Breeder in Hungary alwas had them kenneled. I am trying to get them use to the house. Heck the male tried to jump out the window instead of using the door. but yes to answer your question at night they are out side in a kennel with a dog house inside the kennel. they are out loose on my two and a half acres all day playing. I thought that would be enough to tire them for the night. Thank you for replying

We use the Dogtra YS300's.  They are smaller, but still work, easy to deal with, and have a vibration mode as well as various levels of correction.  They also have a light that shows when they are fully charged, no guessing.  Our biggest barkers are now on the 2 setting, the lowest before the vibrate mode.

Good luck!  Wishing you a full nights sleep!

I have a question on the same subject.  What to do if the fur around the neck is too thick to allow consistant contact for the probes, even using the longest ones available?  I have used e-collars before but ran into the same problem.  It made them inconsistant, which is not good for any training IMHO.  And, no, I do not want to shave her.

No, don't shave, that's not recommended either.   You may not have the collar tight enough.  It took some getting used to on how snug it needed to be. I have a tendency to be too loose when adjusting it.  Now I put two fingers under the collar when I buckle it, then go snug, not tight just snug.  And bark collars need to be centered under the chin not off to one side.

As Animules can attest, I have a very vocal dog and he wears a bark collar every day while I am at work. ( he sleeps int he house at night and never barks in the house.  It's the ONLY place on Earth where he does not bark!!)  I often also use bark collar on training/trial days to keep him quiet so as not to give anyone an excuse for why their dog acted up in a trial   (although, if another dog barking iin a car some distance away is  that much of a distraction...  ).   He has a very  full coat and I have never had a problem.  I use a Tritronic bark collar and it has a set of prongs for longer coats.   Works just great and has an "odometer" that tells me how many times the collar was activated during the day.  I have such ___ neighbors behind me that I kept a log of how many barks during the day for months.    ( I had to do this because the neighbors filed false complaints about the barking.  Fortunately, the last time they did, the animal control officer was in my driveway because of previous calls that week.   He heard no barking, checked the back yard and found....NO DOGS!   I had been out of town that entire week and the dogs were boarded at the vet's.   That led to a citation being issued to the moron neighbors for making phoney complaints.)

I was just looking at mine and think that I can rig longer probes.  If I put it any tighter her tongue would be hanging out so I will try fixing it tomorrow.  I would rather not use a bark collar because I WANT her to bark when something is nearby but also to shut up when I tell her.
