Call me cheap but aren't the prices little bit too expensive? Just what is the box made out of? It looks like cardboard boxes.

Have been using the box made by Durawhelp for over 10 years.. they are so easy to clean, they go right back into the box they arrived in if you want to put it away. The current box has been thru probably 5 litters and we could easily get a couple more out of it.
Pups have to be moved out of it after about 4 weeks but we always move them out of the whelping room anayway around that time.
I will order another from them.. have looked at others and it is still the most reasonably priced one.
Brittany, everything is expensive.. breeding is expensive.... might as well get used to it!

I just bought the Dura Whelp box for my last litter along with two pads (one to use and one to wash) and I am extremely pleased with it. Yes, they look suspiciously fragile, but they are not. Brittany, it is not card board but plastic. The only thing we added was a rubber mat under the sheep skin. The floor suffered were a few dents because my 10 year old daughter spent hours in there with our female and the puppies, but that is cometic. At 4 weeks, we dismantled it and packed it away, because the puppies were old enough.
I told my husband that we should burn our old heavy wooden boxes soon. They were way to heavy to move in and out.

I built my own box with rail. It was really nice, and well put together....but made the mistake of making it out of wood. HEAVY AS CRAP! :( I wouldn't recommend it. My next one I am also making myself, very similar to the one in the photo. Depending on where you are, I would check out lowe's/home depot, do a sketch of what you are looking at doing. If you take it to the help desk, they are very helpful. Get the pricing of doing it yourself verses buying one. You might be surprised.

ladywolf, ours is of wood, and would be heavy BUT, we opted NOT to nail the bottom in, this allows us to lift the sides up put layers of blanekts down over the bottom board, and then lay the sides back down again... works GREAT !!
