Please be advised there has been an outbreak of Giardia in Slovakia. It is all over the country. Please pass this on to all who might be getting dogs shipped from there and have Flagyll on hand.

Giardia is ubiquitous in the environment, whether it be Germany, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Czech Republic or where ever. Once it is in the environment, it forms a spore which is exceedingly difficult to kill. It is easy to become infected. Many vets consider that almost all dogs end up picking it up sooner or later and that it never is really gone from the body, even though treated and the animal finally not being symptomatic. This is why one sees a dog who has been healthy and has not been away from home suddenly become ill. It may have been that the dog was infected and the infection was dormant, but with some stressor the protozoa gain the upper hand.
