The thread on dogs names affecting how people feel about dogs got me thinking.  It seems people liked the German names, or German sounding names, more then the funny Amercian names.  So, what about these dog names?

by the evil neighborhood
From the black dragon
From the Main Oak

Feedback please?

These are all German kennel names translated into English, LOL.

"by the evil neighborhood" is, I think, is bösen Nachbarschaft.  My friend Corinna, from Germany, and I were laughing over some of the Zwinger names recently.  She translated that one as "by the bad neighborhood", only slightly different from "evil", I guess.

Just proves that the Germans have a sense of humor, after all!!    Plus, they know that Americans will pay more for names  they cannot hope to SPELL, much less pronounce.  It makes the dog higher drive,  and guarantees V ratings in shows, or something.  LOL    Americans could do the same thing, only better:  von South Bronx or von Compton, or von Roxbury  tops Nachbarschaft any day for sounding like a place that would produce toug dogs .   How von Tejas?   Now, that carries some cachet!

I liked the one that was something about a jumping frog.

Moral of the story, don't judge a dog by it's name.

Oh come on now....my Tervuren pup had the most hideous name from the breeder....so bad I never posted it on her web page while I owned her.

I can't totally disregard the name thing.....coincidentally, I've had both a horse and a dog named Trouble that were just that.

Got a rescue labrador that came through last year named "Bouncin Betty Goes Bam-a-lam" (AKC).  *shudder* Don't get me started on the racehorse names. I swear they sit around smokin' crack and put names into a hat...haha!!

Yo yellowrose  , are you sure you found Sara while looking for Lasso val de Sol ?  Or could that be the great producing male Lasso di val Sole    Perhaps Sara had relations in the Rat Pack !!

This post made me smile , actually I think 'From the Main Oak' (one of the first you listed) is a wonderful name, do you know the expression Great Oaks from little acorns grow ?  This name conjours up strong, sturdy & steadfast dogs from top of the tree stock - yeh you are right - and people say 'whats in a name'

All the best
