ShepherdWoman

by ShepherdWoman on 29 October 2007 - 00:10

I posted something not too long ago about our 7 year old GSD, Princss losing 17 lbs. since last year this time.  She has lost it all since we got Chaos.  The thing is though, she looks like she has lost more weight since my post!  My husband even commented yesterday, when she was eating, that her stomach looks like it's sucked in a little bit!  She looks really good to me.  The best she has looked in a few years now.  If she is losing more weight, do you think a vet check is in order?  And what would they be looking for in your opinion?

If her stools are still solid and clear of "bugs", and if she's not eating more than she used to and still loosing weight, then I wouldn't worry too much. Especially if you see her and Chaos playing. Then she's probably just more active and feeling good.

But, if she is eating -more!- than she used to, drinking -excessive!- amounts of water, or acting like she's starving to death and you've tried increasing her rations, a trip to the vet's might be in order to make sure she doesn't have a nutrient mal-absorbancy issue / digestive enzyme deficiency, pancreatic condition or a thyroid imbalence. Those are three of the more common reasons for weight loss in GSDs.

Good luck,

-Silver
