While I am not commenting on the breeding, look at the picture of the male-how often do you breeders encounter rear dews? I have only seen it in a pup one time and it was only one small floppy toe on one rear leg-I have never seen an attached one with a pad on a GSD before....www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/classifieds/46237.html

Not a big deal unless the dog tears one off! I have seen lots of german shepherd puppies born with rear dew claws, ones with pads on them mostly too! I guess the breeder just didn't take them off! I have a friend that no matter what I tell her about front dew claws she still has her vet take them off too! She is the only one I know of that takes off the front ones!

Should have specified, by attached, I ment boney attachment, not just skin. The one pup I had the vet snipped it off when he was a few days old. I know a breeder who removes front dews as well, looks funny in a gsd I think!

Rear dew claws, if present (usually not for a GSD, but occasionally) should be removed just after birth. I use human nail clippers. They rarely even produce a drop of blood at 1-2 days old. Front ones should be left intact.
