One of my dogs has completed his competing years so I am taking him off his high protein high performance food diet.

while looking for an alternative I have decided that i prefer to try a good natural home made food.

Can anyone provide some good recipes for a healthy home made dog food that would be good for an older dog that does not need an over abundance of protein.

want it to taste good and hopefully not give him bad breath and of course most importantly be good for him.

Not concerned about the complexity or the time required to make the recipe as we have the time to make it from the best natural ingreidients that we can find.

Jeffrey,Congradulations on your wonderfull dog.I think i can help you with this task.It is VERY IMPORTANT that the dogs have a proper calcium ,salt, iodine etc balanced diet REGARDLESS of what others might tell you.Go to this web site  www.balanceit.com  which is Dr.Sean Delaney one of a very FEW board certified, veterinary nutritionist. In other words he is the real deal when it comes to this type of stuff. Here you will find MANY different types of combinations etc. They will be balanced and you can get the first one free and then i think its 26.00US to formulate a proper diet.I DO NOT WORK HERE OR GET PAID just so you know. You are more than welcome to use my name if speaking to Dr.Sean Delaney, just make sure you tell him im the guy he spoke to a couple times from Toronto Canada and he will know who i am.If you need anything else please dont hesitate to contact me.Good luck with that boy of yours, you must be very proud owning such a wonderfull dog.Ciao from  Toronto Canada

Not all high quality kibble is very high protien.  Check around some of the better brands for a lower protien.  You could also check into the raw diets.  We're looking more into that ourselves and are starting to feed raw a few times a week.
