Thanks gsdlvr2 for reaching out and caring. I live in the fire  area. It is only by the grace of a Higher Power that we have not had to leave yet or have already been driven from our homes.  Some of our number out here have not been that fortunate and have lost all. Again thank you! Kalifornia über alles

thats very kind gsdlvr. although we are safe, my best friend has 3 separate family members threatened by 3 different fires, another friends son may have to be evac'd and my ex-bro-in-law (still close) and his girlfriend have 2 cabins in the running springs fire area. i met a couple last night who evacuated the fallbrook area and the nearest place they could find dog hotel with vacancies was nearly 100 miles away. they were at the petsmart in walnut. at that point, they didn't know if their home was spared. good luck to you don deleon. this is a very scary time for many many people.

The Southern California Fires: I Told You So

WHATREALLYHAPPENED Wed, 24 Oct 07

I HATE TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO, BUT PRESIDENT BUSH HAS JUST DONE TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHAT HE DID TO LOUISIANA!

President Bush gambled with the Mississippi river region. He literally bet the safety of all those people living along the Mississippi River and the city of New Orleans itself that he could send the National Guard on his little war in Iraq. Bush bet he could take all those resources intended to protect New Orleans from a natural disaster and spend them on his war in Iraq, and he LOST that bet, and in the process, he destroyed New Orleans. The damage from Katrina was orders of magnitude worse than it would have been had the levees been properly maintained, and the resources left in place to deal with the catastrophe.

I warned at the bottom of this article that Bush had likely stripped the rest of the nation for not only National Guard but the material resources needed to deal with disasters.

Malibu is sadly proving the point. Most of the California National Guard is in Iraq, along with most of their heavy equipment and supplies. And, just as funding was cut for flood control to pay for the war, federal funding for wildfire prevention was cut, again to fund the war.

I understand Heidi McKinney lost her home, and Rhonda Long has been evacuated. Very sad for Heidi who just lost her husband last year, now her home as well.

I would rather this thread not go political, but empathetic and humanistic as was intended.

Oh no!  How sad for Heidi.  I talked to her regarding a puppy right after her husband died.  Very nice lady.

My thoughts go out to all in danger.

There are quite a few major kennels and horse facilities in the areas of the fires. Just pray the animals are all evacuated safely. Nice that the human shelters are accepting everything from snakes to livestock. I could never leave my animals behind.
