Can someone help me out with teeth cleaning ? My 3 year old has bad breath and I know it coming from her back teeth on the top , I tried little by little to scrape it with my fingernail , it does help... but I was hoping someone would have another idea for me . Brushing them does not get off the build up already there .. her teeth had build up on them when I got her at 14 mos. old . I feed her a little Solid Gold - Hund-n-Flocken dry food in the morning and 1 Nature's Variety raw beef patty at dinner time . Is it the dry food that is causing this build up on her teeth ? Should I just increase the raw food and eliminate the dry food ?
Any suggestions?

Various gels and rinses are available that contain the same bacteria and plaque-fighting properties. Products such as Dental Cleanser Solution can be applied to your pet's teeth with a toothbrush, a finger toothbrush, a dental sponge, or a cotton ball.
There are toys and treats that help with the mechanical removal of plaque and with massaging your pet's gums.
Plaque removal can be accomplished by using toys such as Plaque Attacker Dental Chews, rope toys, or Dental Mint Rawhide.
you can freshen your dog's mouth with a quick-acting Fresh Breath Spray or Fresh Breath Tablets, or with a Dental Clens Pad.
All of these contain ingredients that leave your pet's mouth minty fresh AND work to reduce the odor-causing bacteria inside her mouth. Some dogs have chronic bad breath that stems from digestive problems. You may want to try Acidophilus+, in addition to the items mentioned above. Acidophilus+ works from the inside out, containing "good" bacteria to help your girl properly digest her food and produce less gas which could make its way up to her mouth. Pet Kiss is a pure blend of 100% all natural parsley seed and sunflower oils that you squeeze onto your pet's food. It works to neutralize both the odors in your pet's mouth and those in her digestive system.

Raw bones are the best for cleaning teeth. Oddly enough, one of my wife's terriers had HORRIBLE breath. She used a product called "Angel Eyes" for the tear stains stains on his white muzzle and Lo and Behold, the next day his breath was GREAT! It works by controlling a red yeast infection.

My dogs don't have bad breath or teeth problems. I feed almost all RAW. The enzymes in the meat keeps the PH in the mouth where it is suppose to be and no tartar build up. My old girl was on RAW for 3+ years, her back teeth were getting some tartar on them, after RAW it went away. She passed in June at 12+ years and her teeth were very clean.

My female came from breeder eating dry food, I did alot of research and switched to raw, and to my surprise her teeth at 1yr were so white that the vet asked what i was doing(he doesnt believe in raw) I told him i feed raw and he said well just keep doing what your doing,so i have raw bones(pork and beef) not to exspensive but if you decide to stay dry give them instead of raw hide, give them at feeding time before food when you add. Dont cook them just the raw bones big not ribs and in no time you will see a difference in teeth, but watch out they may want those and not the dry so use them often but shepherds take to raw really fast .

I have one dog on kibble one on RAW. It makes a world of difference. Kibble dogs stink and have buildup on their teeth. My RAW dog has great breath, the whitest I have ever seen and doesn't even have that nasty body oder most dogs have. Just makes you wonder what kinda crap is in dog food anyway? The stink is all the chemical "poisins" coming out of their pores. When you remove the chemicals the dogs smell wonderfull. Bi-weekly baths are no longer needed to stand my dogs near me.

The majority of tartar buildup is from grains. I found that mine had improvement in breath when I switched them to Innova Evo. Raw would probably be better though.
Also, while you are in the process of dealing with the teeth themselves you can put apple cider vinegar in the drinking water. Doesn't take a lot. Or pour a little (couple tablespoons) over the food. The dog will benifit on many fronts from the vinegar.
