I have a 5 month old and 14 month old that have some spots of missing or thinning hair. Could this be from them playing too rough with each other of from some type of fungus. The areas are not inflamed or have open sores its just thin. I noticed it in my 5 month old about a month ago and now Im just starting to notice it in my 14 month old. Any ideas on what it could be?

Where are the spots--on the head, ears, legs? Could be demodex.

Your DVM can get a scraping quick and easy. This may reveal the problem. Either way the product below is outstanding.

Abhay: Just wanted you to know , I bought two tubes of the tmj OINTMENT YOU suggested , at Tractor supply, last month....
I have a cocker , that I razor burned , trying to get her cut in a hurry, so i used it , and it works great....one gsd , to my surprise came up with a hot spot and i zapped it and all most overnight it was healed and she quit chewing on it.....
My sons gsd got into ringworm in a business he was demolishing in Galveston....dampness down there lets that stuff harbour for years and month...poor Blaiz keeps a re occurring stage of this ,and my son got it also....he cloroxed everything and had iodine shampooed,,,microbial shampoos,,,,,and treated for over a year....he took to vet and the vet didnt do a scrape and said that s not ringworm ..
It is....when the dog gets wet , and down there has rained for 4 months straight and water every where.....dog breaks out in little bumps if you dont shampoo with the sulfur shampoo...and he is about to scream.....because he cant walk right now due to a foot amputation,......the dog has to say clean, but nothing he does clears the three little round spots on his undersides......I ask to come home to let me take to vet for a scraping,,,but right now he cant travel.....so Im gonna order Nu stock or go to Horaneys, tomorrow and buy it...and send it too him....I am so concerned for my big boy.....he eats a ton of liver, and is on a good dog food, but son has limited money,,as his workmans comp is a joke.....I may have to go get him myself...but nu stock sounds like something along with the probiotics, fish caps, and vitamins I sent him about a month ago....
Thanks

Sorry, the spots are on the back of their ears

Have the vet do a scraping it doesnt cost much and then you know for sure...sounds like dermadectic and it is not contagious funny both have it......check and then you can do you own treatment breeders here have the answers and there are several ways to treat dermadectic.....it is a immune defecency breakdown ususally high drive and when dog makes changes in its life it gets stressed and the mite takes over.,,
no big deal dont let vet scare yu and tell you go tell your breeder ,to put down there dogs or neuter and spay theml.
thats what ole school use to think...
good luck..start the raw meat diet.and plenty of omega 3 and 6 and vitamin ester C

Yellow Rose, I think the Nu Stock Corp. owes you and I some $$ for all the P&R work we do for them!

Yellowrose, if it truely is ringworm a few weeks of Fulvicin should clear it up if it is done with topical treatments. Unfortunatly, the stuff is horribly expensive, especially for a big dog, but it is worth it in the long run to not have to keep dealing with ringworm.

A guy here imported a really nice bitch from the slovak repbublic and she developed demodectic mange. His vet told him not to breed her, sucks for him because he wont. Nice dog wasted.

Are they very itchy? I find it odd that both would have demodex at the same time. I'd be worried about sarcoptic mange or ringworm, I'd have the vet do a skin scrape to figure out which it is. If you rub the ear margins together if it is very itchy you should be able to elicit a scratch reflex. It is a similiar treatment for both, but you may need to be more aggressive if it is sarcoptic mange. Sarcoptic mange is very very itchy and sometimes those mites can be hard to find on scraping.
Just my two cents.
