If I put an ad out that said...

Pink Papered Import Male for sale.....

What Registry would you think the dog is registered with ???

What Country do you think the dog came from ???????

Please answer the two questions,  and then I'll give you the REAL Scoop !!!!

And Please do answer the questions cause I will be needing this for PROOF of Implied Advertisement !!

Usually "Pink" papers refer to dogs registered in Germany, HOWEVER there are a couple other countries that have "pink" registration papers that are similar to the German ones (Hungry comes to mind).

Let me guess, the male you purchased is not from a German Kennel.

If he is from Hungry make sure his ear tattoo matches his paperwork and that it looks like its been there a while!

Well I too assume, by the way you worded the post that it is not SV like most of us would think if reading pinkpapered.

However, it is not false advertisement if other registries also have pink colored papers.

I bought a dog a while back asking if he was papered. Puppy and the answer was yes he was registerable. Now in their defense I don't know that I specified the main registry with this breed or not. However, when the paperwork finally came it was something like South Texas Pet  Registry.... and of course he was registerable.

They were intend on selling the dog and in my eyes lied by omission (they knew from me talking to them on the phone that I had other working dogs registered with the main studbook) but then again, I should have maybe asked more questions.

So from now on, I always ask many more questions than I used to.

However, I feel bad for you.

I feel bad for you also. I would assume that "pink papered import" means a dog imported from Germany registered with SV.  As others have stated, if other countries also have pink papers it isn't false advertising if the dog was imported from another country with pink papers, but very misleading. And I've been called a tire kicker for asking too many questions. I think now maybe I am not asking enough questions. Let us know where the dog is from. This breeder currently is taking deposits on puppies that won't be born until MID DECEMBER. I'd be very careful.

In my experience, both Hungary and Czech give pink papers if the dog is registered with FCI.  Our Canadian import's papers were light tan.

I have been told that Mexican imports also come with pink papers?

Chinese come with papers too but its a very common understanding. Pink Papered not specified about the origin means German.

As a new person looking for a GSD, I automatically assumed that pink papered meant from Germany.  That was foolish now that I look back on it.  If the ad stated what you wrote, then it would not be false advertising if you assumed that the dog was registered with the SV from Germany.  It would be false assumption.

I am sure that anyone who visits this site regularly would ask which registry and which country, before sending any money or agreeing to any purchase.

But, 9 times out of 10, one would be correct in assuming that it meant SV and Germany.

Sometimes the dog bites you, sometimes you bite the dog, but 99.9% of the time, you are the one getting bit.

Surely you wouldn't buy a dog without checking the kennel name?  If the kennel name is German I would assume SV, if the kennel is Czeck or Hungarian I would assume their registry.......

Agar came from Slovakia and his papers were pink.  The female I just got from Canada originally came from Germany and she had her pink papers and AKC papers.  I wouldn't just assume the dog came from Germany just because the papers were pink.  There's other possibilities that can be factored.

My german show line female, bred in germany, whelped in the states that is AKC registered, recently received her papers from the USA office, (after over a year) her new papers from USA are pink. Guess I can say she has pink papers!
