I've wondered for a while and reading other threads brought it up again.  How is it determined how many dogs receive each show rating, is it percentage or judges decission?  VA, V, SG, etc.  In the NASS thread it was mentioned 30 males and 10 were VA.  How is that decided?

There is no standard number. The numbers of VAs are based, or should be, simply on the quality of the class presented. Some will argue that politics is always inevitably involved. What is more telling is the overall quality of the class and the SIZE of the class represented. When one gets a VA rating with a hundred or more dogs in that class, that is something to crow about. It may or may not be what it seems when the class is much smaller. None the less, some fine dogs are exhibited in small classes.....
