http://www.sapphireshepherds.com/healthcare.htm Read this whole website of this kennel here in the USA....more and more gsd owners and breeders are realising that there is a better way.......my thread  on Chlorination on water was just the start of what we need to start in our country for better health and longevity of this loyal , royal breed......I use a lot of these herbs and garlic is the biggest and the herb for getting rid of worms is number two on my list to start with.......

I start my pups on raw meat at two and half weeks, if they are ready to eat.  It is a musher's dog food in raw meat form, with suppliments and bone meal added to it.  I make it soupy when they are very small, but within a week they are eatting it without it being soupy.  They grow big and hearty.  I don't introduce kibble until they are six weeks old, as many people feed kibble so they need to have some experience with it.  I have to make them hungry to eat it.

It's hard to feed a BARF or any other kind of raw diet.  You get so much misinformation from all sides.

Some vets just hate the raw diet.  I had one puppy buyer who had recently fertilized his yard and let his pup run on it immediately afterwards.  His pup got the runs, and he took it to the vet.  I felt that pup got into the fertilizer..I've had that happen, and my dog got a bad case of the runs.  Of course, it was some kind of un-tested for but absolutely apparent intestinal infection from eatting raw meat. The vet told him he had to put the dog on kibble and never ever feed it raw.

I am however always a suspcious of the health claims of certain herbs that are not substantiated by research.  It seems there are so many herbal fads that come and go.

I meant to say "Hi Ms. Yellow Rose" also.  Any more information on feeding the natural diet?

Well, this is a germans shepherd breeder and they are doing it this way....I find it refreshing that there are lots of natural ways to do things   not chemicaly bound and much happier dogs and not so many bad reactions to chemicals.....

Herbs and natural vitamins are very beneficial if given and used in small and tiny amounts,,,,use head of sense and guiiliens.....all kinds of people cry    wolf   on the raw diet.....thousands of people feed it and maybe a few have had problems , but investigate what they did and how they did it...or the genetic make up of the dog in question has a lot to do with it....

some imbred dogs you cant do anything for them any  how.....or   any whoooooooooo....

Keep on researching and I put these thing out here for all to read and you be the judge and you make your selections what to dol....vets are not breeders not nutritionalists     even Iaams veterinarian on their staff of food researchers will tell you that....95% of vets study  medicine and do not further their education to include nutrition...

I have been researching and following these practices with my current dog. I held off on the Rabies vac for as long as I could and he wont be getting any other shots except rabies the rest of his life. He eats raw, takes herbal suppliments and I'm taking him off of the heartworm preventitive all the local vets push on everyone. I'll never board my dog so vaccinations wont be an issue.

Up until now I have never had a dog that didn't stink and have bad breathe. My dog lives outside, sleeps in the dirt and he still smells fresh. I love it!

4pack I was wondering if you actually stopped administering heartworm meds, and if so: Do you live a warm climate? And what alternative precaution are you taking?

There are many natural remedies, herbs and natural minerals that repel and prevent infestations of all kinds. Do a little research on the web or invest in a Holistic vet book or 2. I do live in a warm climate and even before administering any preventatives (when I was younge and broke) non of my animals has ever contracted heartworms. I live in a seriously high risk area too. All around me are orchards, rice fields, irrigations ditches, prime breeding grounds for mosquito. When I was able, I put my pets on every preventative I could afford, thinking I was doing them a favore. A little research tells another story. Now I think back and wonder if I caused those dogs, cats and horses any harm or shortened their life, by what I gave them blindly listening to my vets. Who by the way are salesmen trying to earn a living. After researching the RAW diet I started looking into suppliments and holistic vet practices. Very interesting stuff. http://www.preciouspets.org/articles/natural-heartworm-prevention.htm http://www.theherbsplace.com/Heartworm_Prevention_sp_104.html http://www.healthyhappydogs.com/HeartwormPrevention http://www.unchainyourdog.org/news/NaturalHeartworm.htm

Nice website. I have been a Juliette fan for approx. 10 years now. My GSDs have very little in the way of health concerns b/c of this.

I miss our eMOTICONS ALSO....WHERE DID THEY GO......OLI.......?????? our food industry pays not attention to red dye in our food, candy and the chemicals in candy, cakes, potato chips, soft drinks especially any diet drink or food.....loaded with a bunch of dangerous trites and trates...and yellow dye,,blue dye and citrate in many things we eat and drink not even getting to the dog food delimma.. I just picked up a pup as a pick of litter contract..and the lamebrains were feeding a puppy food from the local feed store,,against my orders...and the ingredients read like this wheat,, soybean meal, meat and bone meal, animal fat(preserved with BHA and citric Acid) BINGO >>>>>second big mistake.....wheat the first ingredient... wheat germ meal, salt ,calcium carbonate, dried fermented corn ( get out the Whisky bottle) sodium metabisulfite, >>>>>>>>4th mistake.....menadione sodim bisulfitecomples ( next biggest chemical induction into a dogs body that is a chemical and not needed....>>>>>>>>...I could go on and on... I had to hold my tongue and walk away and in three weeks I will have this pup detoxed and back on the road to healthy eating....ridiculous what people dont know ,,,,,before they buy a dog and and now you know the RESt of THE Story.......
