I recently bred a litter of pups, kept one very stunning dog.he is now 5 months and 2nd bout with Pano. His father also has had several bouts, ending when he was about a year. No prior issues with pano in this or dams lines that any one can recall. also not other pups to date has shown any signs. my question is is this something that can be bred out of a line or am I better off neutering letting this little guy become a pet.....all are fed Canidae all stage

I've never had a problem with pano, and I've had many litters, which
makes me start to wonder if it's inherited, but maybe not, I'd say if he
is outstanding looking, wait for it to pass at 1 year, it happens to many
dogs, you neutering one dog wouldn't take care of the problem, if it hasn't
been appearing in the other dogs (other than the sire)
I also feed my dogs Canidae all stage, but just started a week ago,
I can notice a shine though in some of my dogs I didn't see before.
He's a boy I just snapped a picture of, he's 4 weeks today,
wish I could keep him, but I'm keeping a girl, ALL the pups are way to cute!

I would change the food to a lower protien food. Switch to a raw diet or lower portien kibble and I'll bet it clears up shortly.

I am surprised to see that after feeding 24 % protein that a problem
like that could arise.
Some puppy foods can run 32 % protein.

Walkies
My 13 month old male has had it 4 times. 1X on the left, 3X on the right. I just brought him to the Vet again this past Weds. to make sure it was Pano. It is. I have read ALOT about it and there is no know remedy. Some say cut back on protein but there is nothing to support that. I feed raw and have been since he was 8 wks. I also don't think neutering is going to make a difference. It's time limited, we just have to be patient. Only draw back has been I haven't been able to train him during these bouts and it has cost me & him time in getting him titled.

Father was neutered after Yukon (pup) started with pano, My question is do I run the risk of passing this along or neuter the last of this line,to prevent future pups form this or is this something that can be bred out of a line, Exrays and blood work have ruled out other issues ..... For all you have a Hearts.... After neuter if need be he will remain with me.

I have 2 GSD's littermates both 2 years old. One fed Canidae one fed Eagle Pack. The Canidae has a ME (metabolized Energy) of 468 kcal/cup and the Eagle Pack has a ME of 368. The Canidae dog got pano the Eagle Pack dog did not. My father also has a GSD--different litter and his dog, fed Canidae got pano.
I figured out why this happened by reading The Dog Food Project.com.

Shelley Strohl found something that works. I believe it was Rimadyl. Perhaps she could confirm that, or you could email her.
