Howdy again.  It's just little old trouble maker me.  I find it interesting that there are people that can advertise that they can "title your dog for you, for a fee".  Shouldn't there be more to it than that?  I mean, unless titles are just that easy to get, with just about any old dog.

I guess my point is this:

Isn't getting a title on a dog, just about any GSD, just a matter of persistence, and not so much on the abilities of the individual dog?  Of course all dogs are not made equal, but really, isn't even a mediocre GSD good enough to title, with the right trainer and/or persistence?

Should titles such as Schutzhund I, which sort of "qualifies" a dog to be considered for breeding purposes (in the minds of most), be tougher to get?

If a professional trainer takes my dog, for a fee, to title it, and the dog does not attain a title after 3 to 6 thousand dollars, will I get a refund, OR, will I get back my dog with a title that may be basically worthless?

Just stirring the pot as the board is rather boring right now.

If all you want is a title then yes...If you want quality than no...People who buy dogs just because they have a title or just because the parents are titled they need to get more info....I have seen dogs with sch 1 that were nervy, and barely bit the sleeve...Homework is the key do it and do it well......

I've heard of people sending dogs out to get titled- I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it personally. I'd imagine anyone "experienced" in training and putting titles on dogs would first evaluate each indivduals dog to determine if it's possible to even do???  If the person is sending the message that he can title anyone's dog for a fee then I'd be careful about sending my particular dog to that person.  Perhaps if the dog has already attained a SCH I or II title it would not be necessary and fair to assume another title will more than likely get achieved but if we're talking about a "green dog" then I'd not be so quick to write out the check. lol

I spoke to a lady one time at the airport picking up her 6th GSD- she was a breeder in Maryland and she told me she only buys titled dogs and then sends them out to people to further their titles for her breeding program.  She does not do SCH, does not train- just breeds.  Is this a bad thing???  Who am I to judge??

I have thought about sending out my dogs to get titled. As I am new in the sport of SchH and would take me years to achive what most are importing. But to me it means more personally if I do the training. Yes, I many never have a ZVV3 or a ScHH 3 dog hell for that fact a ScHH one but I know I have put all the hard work , time and efforts in to it.

After seeing the video of  "worried about up coming trail" and the horror stories of people breeding your dog or keeping them for a year ect ect   I would not send my dog anywhere. I will be more then happy with the "little" titles I have earned.

Most of the time people buy titled dogs so they can get more money out of thier puppies. It cost more but hell when you are selling your pups for 1300.00 + who cares if you know how to work the parents, or help a client train his dog.

Myself personally I would rather buy a puppy from a person that is trying to title a dog, has started from the bottom and worked thier way up, and can help me learn. Then a person that does not know what it is like to have the hurt and heartaches from problems , doesn't know how to work, train, or show the dogs, and just says what they have learned off of the web site that they bought the dog from, or they are great dogs cause they have not eaten the children or the cat yet!!!!!

Just my thoughts

I don't see the conflict.  There are a number of people who, for what ever reason, have a professional trainer title their dogs.  There is nothing sinister about it, nothing cruel or unusual.  As long as the trainer is a good trainer, what difference does it make?  AFter all, you don't look at a name, see atitle & therefore assume the dog is superdog anyway!

Sue I remember once you said you knew a great trainer in TX--do you have his contaqct info?  I am one of those who if I found the right trainer would get my boy titled.  I am not physically able to do it or I would...or at least give it a heck of a shot.  But yes I have my reservations about sending my dog off to someone I don't know.  That's why I'd like someone close.

"If a professional trainer takes my dog, for a fee, to title it, and the dog does not attain a title after 3 to 6 thousand dollars, will I get a refund, OR, will I get back my dog with a title that may be basically worthless?" (DR&FNO)

Refund your money?  Sort of like with doctors.  Do you know of many doctors (good OR bad) that will refund your money if treatment is unsuccessful?  If the dog is a shitter but the trainer is good the dog will get a title.  Someone would be pretty dumb to choose a trainer based on what is said on a website or an ad.  Like anything else in the world, there are easy judges, hard judges etc..
