Does anyone have any experience with a dog that vomits immediately after eating?   He no more than gets his meal down and BAM it's all over the floor.  He is on an all raw diet, this pas summer had a complete exam and blood work up from top to bottom.  He is eight years old and acts just fine.  He is active, nice coat, not losing weight, stool is fine, clear eyes, no fever etc...just pukes then tries to re eat it.  Last night he did it and I re fed him a pound of raw turkey and he kept that down after he puked.  He does not projectile vomit which would indicate a blockage but he rather has the whole wretching thing going on as I try ot rush him outside ASAP.  At first I wasn't too concerned thinking he is going outside eating a bit of grass on the outisde of the pea gravel area he is in but this is getting too frequent for my peace of mind.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  I am goign to consult the vet but thought soemone might have had the same experience...

Vomiting immediately after eating is usually due to some sort of blockage, e.g. pyloric stenosis. (However, that would be the projectile type.) It may be possible he's swallowed something that's too big to come back up or go through his gut, for example, a rock or a piece of bone. You'll get different opinions on this site, but my advice is DON'T FEED RAW, especially raw food with bones such as chicken or turkey necks and backs. The bones can cause blockage and perforation of the bowel. Just ask you vet!

An x-ray should show if there's a blockage due to something he's swallowed. Good luck!

Besides what Sunsilver suggested, I would also check for IBD.  I had a dog that was constantly eating things she shouldn't and as it passed through her intestines she would sometimes get IBD.  This was usually treated by simple antibiotics.

My girl vomits immediately also, but it's only something COLD.  If she eats cold yogurt, cottage cheese, water, anything straight from the fridge it comes up immediately.  And I do mean immediately.  If i warm up the cottage cheese she eats it fine.  Could this be your problem with feeding raw?  Have you tried taking the chill off it?  This works for me.  Hope it helps.

Thanks for the advice.    You could be right about the cold issue.    His raw food is just turkey and preference by Honest Kitchen so no bones that would cause blockage.  But that is not to say he didn't eat something else that would cause the blockage.   I have a call into the vet but I will try to warm up the turkey some...

I"ve seen that with dogs that just eat too fast.  Try giving him small amounts, waiting until he's done with a little before giving him a little more, until he's finished with the amount you want him to have - see if that helps.

Sunsilver...Why would you ask the Vet??? Vets know nothing about nutrition, there is little risk with perforations or blockages as you state with a raw diet.... I own a raw diet business for 5 yrs now. Not one blockage yet. Your statement is clearly based on you not knowing what your talking about. In my opion you should know what your talking about before giving advice. For the record, we sell 82 -95 cases a month of chick frames.

For what it is worth, I was feeding raw and I had 2 dogs out of 7 that had blockage from the bones.  I was feeding mostly turkey necks and chicken wings/leg quarters.  I was told turkey necks caused blockage.  The 2 dogs affected by blockage though just stopped eating. I also had a run pup that gulped her food and would vomit right away from eating too fast.

Mine will do this if she gulps her food or eats too quickly (which has been mentioned already).

Of course every case is different, but I had a male who was just like an ape. This is gross, but he would eat then regurgitate and eat it again and then hold it down. He did this every feeding his whole life. He was a beautiful dog and an exceptional athlete. He was the picture of health, but had this one nasty trait. I have never seen another dog like him.
