I dont know of any sites save Sheila Schmutz's, but I know you can get aloot of dog information through the Journal of Heredity, and alot of vet libraries and college libraries in general will have that kind of stuff.
If you are interested in contacting people I know that Dr. Sponenberg who is a color geneticist is at Virginia Tech, and that PennState and UCDavis probably have two of the larger small animal programs.

You could spend days reading the information this site links you to http://www.vspn.org/LIBRARY/WWWDirectory/ClientEducation.htm
I'm no fan of the AKC but http://www.vin.com/WebLink.plx?URL=http://www.akcchf.org/research/funded_research.cfm
Hope it helps,

From a health/genetics point of view one of the best site i've come across and used ...with a wealth of info is the canine inherited disease database
http://www.upei.ca/~cidd/intro.htm
.. just click breeds on left of page then scroll down to GSD's and a huge list will appear , each disease/problem is explained with modes of inheritance etc that are known ...
