I have a 5 Month old puppy and she still has Diarrhea. i have dewormed her and she has all of her shots up to date. I feed her Royal Canin once a day. Her stool is not completely loose but it is not completely solid. someone told me to switch to Nature's Variety because its better all together, and the fact that my puppy may have an allergy to something in the royal canin. Suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
the website for the nature's variety is http://www.naturesvariety.com/
does this look like a good source of food to give to my dog

Concure with yellow on the eating. I feed 3xday but at least 2xs for pups. Even the packages will tell you this. You said STILL has Diarrhea. What does that mean, still ? How long? Royal Canin is an excellent food but sometimes a switch helps but before I ran around looking for diet change I would have her into vet and have them check for everything. You did not mention taking her to vet specifically for this so thats where I would start. Diarrhea is nothing to mess with if it has been going on for any length of time. Go to a Good vet with a good reputation and tell them whats going on. Describe what Diarrhea means to you.

MKMina, my bad, I missed your description of Diarrhea. Same advice though based on the info provided.

Yellowrose of Texas,
how much should each serving be?
She did have Cociddia and we treated that but it might still be there
Do you know of any good vets in southern California, or any way of finding them. the vet i go to seems like an idiot

If you have a friend that has a good looking healthy dog,
by all means ask them who they go to for a vet.
Also, you can not switch your puppy's food to many times,
or they will have problems.
I just switched all my dogs to Natural Balance, I like that I can feed
Salmon, cause I give them raw on occassion, and I feed them canned Salmon.
Some vets can be dumb, but that's good you noticed your gut feeling's.
I'm sorry but I live in Massachusetts, and can't help with a vet (Long drive)..
I feed my pups 2 times a day, 6am & 4 pm.
You're doing everything right, just make sure
your pup is drinking enough water, so as not to become dehydrated.

overfeeding can cause loose stool. is it the consistency of pudding? you could cut her food by half or 1/3 for 2 days to see if this makes a difference.

I have a puppy about the same age and she's currently eating the Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy three times a day at about 2 to 2 1/2 cups at a time. She's also getting plain yogurt in her food for one meal and some cottage cheese with another a few times a week. She has a really good appetite for the most part, but if she doesn't eat all her food, then it's saved for the next meal.
I think your dog is getting too much food at once and it's taxing her digestive system. Remember that GSD's have sensitive stomachs. Even my older dogs if they get one big meal once in a while it will put them out of whack.
For diarrhea issues, I find that the remedy from holistic vet Martin Goldstein works well. It's a potato diet: 50 percent white potatoes, 50 percent sweet potatoes, a slice of turnip and a slice of leek, all boiled and then mixed with boiled chicken or lamb (I've used chicken).
Feed the puppy this only until the diarrhea goes away. I usually start with about one cup at a time as the puppy usually doesn't have that strong an appetite if they have diarrhea. When they start getting better, then slowly mix some of the Royal Canin with the food til you can put her back on the dry food again. I find my dogs really like the mixture. I've also kept the water that the food is boiled in and pour that in the dry food for moisture.
You might find that you'll have to add a small amount of yogurt as a probiotic, or use a digestive enzyme in her food so that she absorbs the nutrients she needs.
Hope this helps!
