Hello, have seen this many times on the messageboard:
URSUS FREE
What does this mean?
Thanks.

by Asko on 10 October 2007 - 13:10
Ursus free means that no where in the pedigree does "VA1 Ursus von Batu" appear.

Thanks Asko ,
but why is this advertised as though it is a good thing. I thought Ursus Batu was a highly rated dog.
Sorry if i'm being dim.
Thanks

So many of the show line dogs have Ursus in the ped, that it has become fashionable to say Ursus Free if someone has a showline ped without him.

A lot of people will advertise a pedigree as being free of a certain dog, especially if it is one that has been used heavily for breeding.
It is nothing negative about the dog normally, it just may make the dog desireable to someone looking to avoid more line breeding on that dog.
