This is a general dog question, not my GSD but one of my terriers. I got home from work today and found a little present on my bathroom floor, 2nd time this week! My male 8 yo Border terrier has been know to "mark" occasionally but I've never had poop in the house before. The stool was solid, normal and neither of them is acting sick or strange. Should I be concerned? The only recent change is I was off of work for about six weeks and started back last week. They've never had any separation anxiety and I've never had this problem before. Drake is either at work with my hubby or crated at home, those two have the run of the house.

If you were home for 6 weeks, I take it the dogs were let out often? If so, the 8 year old is now use to that and probably can't hold it as long now! Strange things start happening when they start getting old. That would be my only guess.

Thanks Shepherd Woman, I wasn't really thinking about age being a factor. I guess I have to look forward to the senior years. Since neither has ever done this before, I was worried about a more pressing health issue. Just seemed strange, same place both times. They aren't due for a check up for about six months and I just wanted to know if I should make an appointment. I may just call the vet tomorrow to be on the safe side but now I'm thinking you're probably right. Appriciate the input!

is it possible to crate the dog for a couple of weeks so he can get back into the swing of things.

Your dog will most of the time pick the same spot every time when it does it's duty inside. My Princess just about every single day leaves me a pee puddle and sometimesssss a poop pile in the middle of the kitchen floor for when I get home from work! I have 4 dogs and she is the ONLY one that can't hold it while I'm gone. She has done this since she was a pup. Same spot every day, or just about every day!

Well, normally I like presents but I can do without these. Yes Rezkat, I have crates for all of them. These are hubby's dogs and he thinks they are happier uncrated. He also thinks dogs are people in fur coats. Gotta love him because he's so sweet with them but sometimes I could kill him when it comes to these issues.
There's a long story that I'll shorten: Was keeping my daughter's dog for a while (ended up being 2 years) and she doesn't get along with my female. Most of the time they just tolerated each other but...Hubby insisted on not crating them and I told him he'd be sorry, trouble in the making. All was fine for some time but months later I came home from work to a bloody kitchen floor and my female nowhere to be found. Hair and blood all over the livingroom. She came hobbling out with a tear under her arm, on her ear, lower neck. Had to spend the night at the vet, drain tube, real mess. He ALWAYS has to learn the hard way. Ada finally went back home and all was well. Glad I was able to keep her for my granddaughter's sake but it was a hair raising couple of years. I still had a (very senior) Yorkie then too, very tough to deal with but it did all work out in the end. Point being, it will be an uphill battle to get him to crate them. At least he has no say in what I choose to do with Drake. Although I think that's why he takes him to work, he knows I'll crate him if he's at home. Like I said, he has a heart of gold but his actions are misdirected. Have tried to educate him to no avail. We'd be living in a kennel and they'd run the house if he had his way.

Cats can be trained to jump up on pottie and us it ,..wonder if hes too old to jump up on pottie and do same....tell your hubby to start his training.....
Terriers are very agile ,.......Put some disposables on the floor if he chooses to continue due to his age......the ones that go under people in the bed they are blue and padded and quite large....cant think what they are called...
Bed wetter pads
