What do you think of these pups? http://www.vondergraf.com/availablepups.htm It says that there are 2 black and tans and 5 solid blues. Those pups are not solids, they are sable. I can not tell by the pics if they are blues or not. Are people breeding for blues in the working lines? The sire is a red sable and dam is a solid black.

Interesting! They are 2-3 on their own dog Nico, and we must guess that he is carrying the blue recessive. When the pups are getting it from both sides, it is diluting their black pigment. I wonder why the breeder says the blue fades to black almost completely. Is this how the gene is expressed in gsd's? In many breeds, that recessive gene permanently dilutes the pigment.
The dilution of black in the sables has a nice aesthetic effect IMO...
We need to see pads of the feet, nose pigment, close up to know for sure what is happening...

I was shocked when I saw this! We all know that a blue can happen, but to be proud of it??! I just don't get it.

I've looked more closely and I think they are, indeed, double dilute blue recessives. Their nose leather and pads do look diluted to me. Almost surely from the tight line(in)breeding on their dog Nico, who must be a carrier.

From my understanding I thought blues and liver's were a no no?? But then again with all these made up breeds like labradoodles and such floating around these days I guess advertising a "blue" shepherd is not such a bad thing rught?? lol

Has the website changed? It says sables & b/t puppies. No mention of blues. Also, I don't think they are dilutes, just 18 week old sables going through one of their many color changes. The did put the wrong picture of the stud up though.
