My bitch is in her 60th day, I noticed today she is discharging a dark green liquid. Is this normal, what is the meaning of this. I was told that the bitch may have a virus or the puppies may be still born,

Your advice will be much appreciated.

TAKE TO THE VET ASAP

I take it this is your first litter,

I hope your female does well

If you see a green discharge before any puppies are born, you will need to take your dog to your vet as it possibly means that one or more of the placentas have possibly separated.

green can be normal, it's not like with humans where it is bad. I doubt you need a vet. Call them if it will set your mind at ease.

sorry I misread that, before pups are born is a concern.

green discharge can be normal.  It's a brown discharge that means dead pup or more than one, in my experience green is normal, but not a lot of it.  Usually the green discharge happens more after the births.

I guess our OP is either busy delivering pups or has gone to the vet. I had a bitch a while back who had alot of pups with green discharge with the whelps. 7 of 11 were healthy, alive and fine. 2 were stillborn, 2 were eaten. Green is not a concern normally, but before the birth rather than with it might concern me.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond to this post.  GSDLVR2 thank you for putting concerns at ease.  She stop with the discharge for now all seem normal right now.

People like you make this web site immensely important to the breed.

It's been over 4 hours. Have any pups been born!?!?!?!

by Palermo on 09 October 2007 - 01:10

No, not yet still waiting.  It's never easy, she did  not eat her dinner tonight so I think she will give birth tonight or tomorrow if I'm lucky.

I will keep a close eye on her.

Thanks for asking.
