Would anyone care to comment on their experiences with Abady?  Apart from the wacky bit about "genius-level thinking" on the box, the arguments they are making sound right to me.  Too much food is probably not the problem in growing puppies -- it is merely the easy-out.  Too much crap in the food is the problem, leading to lots of unsound growth (based on fibrous matter used to make stool-picker-uppers happy and cheapening fillers).  Solid growth of muscle, organ and bone, and not fat, is probably a good thing, and avoiding under-nutrition during critical brain and body development is surely a good thing.

But are dogs happy eating this texture of food?  Do you sprinkle it on other kibble, or on meat, or serve it wet or dry?

I suspect the number of folks who have solid experience with this are small in number, so if you have anything valuable to add to this thread, please do.

MVE--We have bred GSD's for over 20 years and have used ABADY exclusively for 24+ years .  I would not think about using a different food.  I have not had a puppy with pano in that time and I credit the food with contributing to multi-generations of good hips and elbows.  I use a lot of frozen meat as well as the "grandular"  Abady also makes a kibble which I don't use. I would be happy to discuss this food with you in detail at j0728@netzero.net .  The number of people (and breeders) with "solid" experience with ABADY is not so small. ABADY has been around for  about 30 years and a large Guide School has used it for nearly all of that time.  Mr. ABADY quotes their extensive  generational  percentages of good hips in his advertising.  I certainly agree that growing pups need  maximum available nutrition while going through huge growth spurts and  restricting protein (to prevent pano- for example) is not the answer !!   I believe restricting protein levels may, in fact, cause other problems !  Vets, after all,  do not have degees in nutrition ( and neither do I)  15-20 years ago folks said that ABADY has no track record -  well -  it's been a lot of years and there is an extensive track record - all good - IMO! Looking forward to "speaking" with you soon.

I can support the comments by Pineridge. I used Abady Raw and Granulated for years, and now feed home prepared raw based loosely on the Abady model, but using whole meats to allow chewing and natural instinctive behavior. Best Wishes, Jonah

Thanks so much!

Should I infer then that Abady does NOT allow natural chewing behavior?  I am curious about how best to serve this food...

I tried it once years ago. The three dogs that would touch it bled from their anuses, despite my having adhered to the "change over" rice and ground beef diet suggested on the label and in the literature.. The rest wouldn't touch it, thank God.

That was that.

I don't know how anyone gets past the BS he used to have in his old USA magazine ads. I searched for credentials after my bad experience, never found anything credible.

How much Mehalian fish does a dog really need?

I had two dogs on it once, didn't work out. Bad gas, really, really bad gas. among other things.

Bad gas, really, really bad gas.

We called them "the bloody farts." Nasty, nasty. Granted, the formulas contained no preservatives, but the stuff went rancid in my air conditioned kennel kitchen within about 2 weeks. Surely the recipe has changed since I tried the stuff, but my experience was so bad I am not motivated to try it again. Even the weird "crystalline/powder" texture was a turn off, and the cost was out of sight, even in the 90's
