Howdy everyone.  I am going mix a solution of 12.5% Sulfadimethoxine (Albon) with a carrier agent to make a 5% solution to treat Coccidiosis.  I have the formula for the titration to 5%, I would like to know what any of you have used as a carrier agent.  One web site recommended a caloric supplement, Dyne, but there has to be something that is household and palitable for the dogs. I thought of using clear Karo syrup cut 50/50 with water. I don't want it too watery.  I thought maybe an addition of some corn starch.  I will keep it in the fridge after mixing the concoction. Any ideas.  Again, Thanks in advance for the help.  I believe that the counsel of many is the best bet to find the answer to most problems.

I just put it straight in the food, never had a problem with puppies eating it.  If they do turn their noses up, then put a little canned food in there, yum yum they will never notice.

I use the 960 mg.sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim, get a tablet cutter and split the pill into 8 equal

sized pieces then I put 1/8 of a pill into a pill gun, insert it into the back of the throat and inject

the 1/8 of a pill into the pup. I can split the tablets and give a litter of 8 a treatment in 5 minutes.

Haven't had cocci in years.

If I don't have Dyne on hand I use:

1 can evaporated milk

1 egg yoke

3 tablespoons plain yogurt

2 teaspoons of Karo

1 jar of blended baby food

I always keep that on hand when I'm whelping pups.  Works great for energy for mom and you can rub a little on puppy gums too if they look like they may not be strong.

I  just use it straight in a tablespoon with a glob of canned puppy food  I keep a can puppy food for the bitches that are picky the first three days after whelping to mix in their kibble with the raw lliver.....for the choline content....

Use the food because if you give a pup too much sugar  like the karo    it will cause diahrea and your trying to prevent diahrea....I put karo in the milk recipe as someone posted by that it not for medicine,,,useage...

I like the 68.00 bottle of Albon already mixed and tastes like bananas   to the pups   they beg for it and you feed them from a syringe right thru the kennel bars and they lap it up    and never miss    the solution of 12% is bitter and if not hidden in food , they will sling it out   I dont have time to fight pups so My vet orders me the big bottle of Albon.....much easier.for me  ...

There is also a bag of powder , from Revivalanimal .com used for farm animals also that you can put over food...but you waste a lot of that  and its hard to store such a big bag ,,,,,humid weather makes it cake up and waste of money.....I use the Albon on a pregnant bitch for diahrea as you cannot use Flagyll on pregnant females....
