Gunner is 15 months old. When is this going to stop??? I got up this morning because I heard palm fronds rustling in my living room. Thought maybe he had dragged in a whole frond from outside. No, he jumped up and grabbed the one behind my crucifix. This was followed by him running into my room, grabbing my undies and running off with them. I ignored both of these. Then I heard a strange sound. I got up to find Gunner had dragged and ripped open my LEATHER reclining couch and was chewin on it. Nice big 8 inch hole in it. Only a year old. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. I am ready to neuter him AT HOME WITHOUT PAIN MEDS.

Lady! This is an easy fix!!!! Most important it will ensure HIS safety around your home! I have seen many dogs near death from a bowel obstruction from eating underware or dirty socks, broken legs from something falling on them, poisoned dogs from eating plants they weren't supposed too! Now, would you let your 1 year old child just run the house? HELL NO YOU WOULDN'T~!~~
PUT THIS DOG IN A CRATE!!!!!

PUT THE DOG IN A CRATE
NO UNTRAINED DOG SHOULD BE RUNNING LOSE IN A HOUSE UNTIL HE IS FULLY OBEDIENCED AND AN ADULT WITHOUT PUPPY HABITS....
HES A PUPPY UNTIL HE IS 2 1/2 OR EVEN THREE ,,,UNATTENDED IS A NO NO....
YOU CANT TRUST THEM AND FOR HIS SAFETY UR LUCKY HE HASNT KILLED HIMSELF BY CHEWING ON THE ELECTRIC CORDS....OR GOTTEN WOOD SPLINTERS IN HIS GUT..

Crates are the greatest!!! Damage control, pups real happy to see me coming to get them for a walk, want to play with me instead of furniture!!! Not cruel at all, good for their safety ...
Safety, such as neutering with out pain meds....LOL ....
You could threaten your son with the neutering if he doesn't start crating the dog when he's not around!

No, threaten to get rid of the son keep the dog.................send son into the world of dog training....
all trainers will tell you to get a dog to respond to you properly CRATE YOUR PUPPY

This is why my pups don't come in. It's to the kennel unless I am sitting right there making a point of having the dog inside for inside manners training. No way would my 15 month old be lose inside while I was in bed or in the other room longer than it takes to pee. This is exactly why poeple get pissed at dogs and then drop them at the shelter. It's not the dogs fault, they are just being dogs. People don't get they are the ones in need of training, "how to train your puppy/dog training."

Policemom
I never crated my pups and had extensive damage. Numberous shoes, a vacuum cleaner, wood furniture, a bedroom carpet, 8 remote controls, 13 firestarter logs, hairbrushes, eyeglasses. That's just from one dog and off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.I'm not trying to play can you top this just want to let you know I've been in the same boat. At times threatening to send him to the pound. (never would happen) but when I'm in the middle of it it sounds like a great idea. Still not a big fan of them however I now own one....... and I use it when I need to. Good luck

I love my crates!
My 16 month old would also trash my house, eat my cat, and terrorize my birds if ever allowed to roam without supervision.
The crate has saved my sanity many times over. My dogs also like them.........going into them by themselves at times for naps. It's too funny to see 2 to 3 big GSDs trying to jam themselves into one crate, all at the same time. Surprisely, they can do it.

Bad habits learned are bad habits kept ;;;
They learn to do those bad things and chew up and grab everything in your house and yard that does not belong in their mouth....and they have been let do it....and will continue to do it.....never let a dog start a bad habit......because your screaming and punishing and hitting and spanking wont do one bit of good
The secret is dont ever let them get their mouth on any of the items in your house......they dont belong to the dog sign over your deed to them if you dont want to crate them......
Learned behaviour of humans.........
Learned behaviour of german shepherds..........your parents disciplined you so discipline your gsd....put them in a crate until they learn and are an adult dog.
