Kelly M Shaw

by Kelly M Shaw on 03 October 2007 - 16:10

This is not intended to slam who ever owns this dog, so please don't take it this way!! This is a very nice dog, with an impressive head on him. I just haven't seen a GSD with such short ears before, and was wondering if I'm off my rocker, or do they look really short to everyone else. www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/519430.html

Again this is not intended on Slamming anyone!!!

Wow! I like this boy a LOT!  Very strong and athletic looking.  I am not a fan of huge ears personally.  Hope he is still available when I get my new place.

I think they  occasionally show up in the lines ... so does short or even docked tails...

With all the big ears that I've been seeing around lately, it just took me by suprise to see some short one's

the ears on this dog are much too short and round-shaped.  If he were breed surveyed I'm certain this would be looked at closely by the judge.  Hard to tell  in the picture but perhaps his ears were damaged from fly bites or frostbite.  Definately not a normal shape for purebred GSD.

pirol enclavehof  had some shorter ears, but still nicely formed.  i wish i could find the headshot of him that shows this better than the side, stacked photo.  i think you will see some shorter ears among the workingline dogs.  personally, i like the shorter ears and on the thick side.  overly long and thin ears tend to be floppy.  i do agree that the link above shows a dog with "different" ears and as molly suggested, could have been damaged by flies, however he must have had short ears to begin with.  (i like the dogs in his sire-line very much)

I have a boy with really short ears too.   LOL

I agree with  ziegenfarm I really like shorter thick ears.  I don't like the thin ears and I don't like really large ears.

Ajay Singh's stud dog has very shoet ears too. I like it and bet it would improve ears in allot of GSD'd as I see many with HUGE ears. Would be interesting to know if breeding to these dogs helps improve thin or weak ears? It is an eye opener at first and you do a double take but I like the smaller ears after getting used to them.

...stop putting down big ears!...lol..JK, we all have our likes and dislikes....personaly i think a GSD just does not look right without those big ole ears...one of their main known features right? of course maybe im biased cause my boss has big ears, or atleast he did, he seems to be growing into them nicely now...not near as noticable...i think his ears just looked so big cause they stood up when he was so young....but i do agree about the thin ears, dont like that at all, thankfully boss's seems pretty thick/ hard...
