Just found out my english bulldog puppy (13 wks) has Giargia. He is now on his second dosage of pills. First 10 days did not get rid of it. I also have 2 other dogs, but they tested negative. I want to know if anyone knows what is to be done if anything to my backyard. I was told by my vet that picking it up and the rain will take care of the rest, but after reading up about it I'm worried that he'll just kept infecting himself. I would aprreciate any help.
Thanks, Sherri

Just go around your yard and make sure you have no more
standing water anywhere, I've heard that it comes from stagnant water.
Think back......You & your dog might have got it in your travels somewhere
other than your back yard.
I had one of my dogs get Lyme disease when I was vacationing
in NH, I pulled the tick off her, it was the smallest inflated tick I
had ever saw.
Think about it & put two & two together............................

Giardia stays in the dirt for a LONG time. Bleach will help as well as using a product called Virkon. Turning the dirt, or mud from rain will bring giardia to the surface. Topical giardia will be killed off by sunlight, but when it is in the ground a inch of so down, it lives a long time.

Dante had Giardia and all I did was pick up after him. I didn't treat the yard in anyway.
It did take 2 rounds of 2 different antibiotics to get him clear but we haven't looked back and this was 2 years ago

I had a problem with this malady also. Here is a link to a site that also links to a Coccidiosos and internal parasite site. Easy to follow and accurate info on identification, diagnosis and treatment plus, follow-up suggestions to prevent reinfection.
