Someone I know has a litter of the black german shepherd puppies.  They have decided they don't want to deal with registering them.  They want to give them away.  If they can't give them away, they are going to "dispose of them."  I want to take them and find them homes, but I didn't know if I could paper them, or if the owner had to.  If someone could give me advice it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

yes the owner of the male and female have to sign puppy registration papers in order to get the papers from AKC, then the owner of the female has to sign all the puppies papers in oder for the new owners of the pups to register the pups.

Wow!  Harsh situation.  Kudos to you for stepping in and re-homing the puppies.  You might want to call AKC to discuss this.  Even if you can't get the puppies registered, you can at least alert them to the piss-poor breeding practices of these people.  Not sure if AKC will give a hoot, but worth a shot.

How horrible that anyone would not take responsibility for the lives of puppies they have allowed to be born!!!!!

Bless you for caring enough to get involved and making an effort on the behalf of the pups!

Wishing you and the puppies the best of luck in finding loving  homes!

You can register the pups online   with their help   they give you all the info needed and then akc will email them for verification......you can put your address where the papers are to come and then they sign on each paper , transferring the pups to you   on each paper.....signed by them and date is and then you can be the new owner and sign over th e certificate when the pups go to new home

a few steps to take....I would not involve AKC   they dont help infact  , they may not register them ,,,as they may feel this is a shady deal....they dont get involved.....not to help   they say    takeit to court........

If these people are giving you the pups,,,,,,do that instead of involving akc    could get sticky and drawn out.....this way     register the litter in their name as owners,,,mail   puppy registration in their name to your address or theirs ,,,doesnt matter if they are willingly doing this...for you,,,then they sign each app....and date the date of transfer to you......you register all pups in your name and now you have control of where they go and can choose to block the registration or leave it open  ,,,,,

I would charge each puppy person the 20.00 fee for the papers,......and if your giving them away ,,,,,charge a small fee for shots and worming....   what a deal for the pups to get good homes and          would hope these people dont breed again...

Make copies of each step you take   and when the pups get new homes , which need to be sooner than the papers come..., but btw     online registration is very swift  ......and you can register them online when you get the papers.....they will email the other party for verification and they have to respond or the process stops and they dont get registered....if they dont have a computor ,,,,,make another email add on your computor for them   and  use it to have it emailed to......

doing it like this ,there is not paperwork , except the computor and the signature is the email verification.....follow the directions on www.akc.org         click on    online registration    havae the akc papers of sir and dam in your hand , to copy some important info on ...without the cert ...you wont be able to register as you have to put in the issue date of each , and you dont get that without the cert. of each of them...

I've done rescue for 20+ years.  You don't need AKC papers to be a hero for these pups.  AKC papers are a nonissue unless the new owners have breeding/show aspirations.  As a matter if ethics, it would be totally wrong to breed these pups.  All rescues by right should be spayed/neutered.  It's doubtful that give away dogs could be show quality.  They may be working quality but you don need papers for that either.  People show mixes in schutzhund and in AKC obedience they will accept an ILP # (proof of spay neuter required and photo resembling the breed one wants an ILP # for).

These pups deserve to be pampered pets.  Selling them as anything other than rescues is kinda the wrong thing to do.  They deserve to get forever homes wherein people have no intentions of exploiting them for financial gain (I'm refereing to the potential new homes not the writer of this topic).

I would charge an adoption fee for the pups....you may need it to cover wormings, shots and health certificates?  If you're lucky you may break even...God Bless.

God Bless You for taking them in and trying to find them homes.

I hope you find good homes for them all (with or without papers).
