hoooray! angus got his cgc today and made some new friends! the ladies who run the class have NOT had good experiences lately with gsds, especially young!!! ones. they have been very aggro and unsocialized and obviously not good advertising for the breed. well, angus was very good and sweet and he was used as the "neutral" dog for meetings and walk bys, etc. they both really liked him and said it gave them hope that there were good gsds out there! a gazillion kids playing football, soccer and dogs (not in the class) etc and he was sooo good. he even got loved on by people with kids coming from their games! i was so proud of him. next week i go to the therapy dog seminar, so now i'm one small step toward that goal! hoooray!

Naya and I are very proud of you, and Angus!!!! Judging by the way you typed, he is a young dog? I think it is just that more impressive when a YOUNG dog does it! Not that it ever ISN'T impressive, but young dogs, still being puppies, I think it is amazing! Congrats again!!!!

Hi Angusmom, and congradulations for such an acheivement!

My Theo got his Therapy Dog certificate just recently.

I was going to go to one of those therapy dog seminars, with a friend,
she had mentioned it to me.

The more we thought about it & saw what it was all about, it seemed
like a rip off, we were both familar, with our dogs behavior, and trusting
how they would act around elderly or hospital paitents,  we opted,
rather than pay someone over $100.00, and be guaranteed a certificate,
we would take our chances, we passed with flying colors!

It was $10.00 for the test, Theo got his CGC & TDI together!

Here's a link to the test we did

thanks everyone!

Sparrow - Good Luck on Monday! just relax. i always stress before a test, then decided to relax; he knew his stuff and just enjoy the morning. we all had alot of laughs. a man was there with a little westie (miss lily) who was, at first very timid. she mellowed out abit. she even ventured over to angus to smell him! her man was a little surprised, but happy. she did very nicely and i found out later she was a rescue, and her man had been working with her for a few years! 2 years ago she hid from him all the time and now she looks to him as her world! he was very very calm and patient and she got her cgc! it was great. god bless all the rescuers out there who really really take the TIME to remake a dog. it was hard to imagine going for years with a dog hiding from me! yet this man did it and is turning a little dog (she was a "breeder" and dumped when she couldn't pump them out anymore) into a happy confident little dog. they have a ways to go, but it was so neat to hear the story and to see what love and dedication to a dog can be.

Naya's mom - angus is 16 months. he's sort of a "baby huey". our mali rescue is not yet 2 and smart as a tack, but angus is a bit slower. he's also a very sweet pup. our claire couldn't be a therapy dog,tho she's a good girl, but angus, well - he's a big sweet mellow boy, and so far, everyone has said that he is perfect for it. god willing and continuing training.

Mira'smom, i think i told you congrats!, but if i neglected, i'll say it now - congrats!!! i think it may be tougher in the (sub)urban parts of california to get the cerification.i know that the insurance for each dog is at least $1,000,000! i'm paying $55 for the all day seminar, then the next steps are taken (evaluation of dog and owner, etc).

thanks to everyone and to anyone who's considering this - go for it!!! it can really be a gift to all involved. and keep your fingers crossed for us in our next steps, please.
