If a dog is considered "working" dog, and a dog is considered "show" dog, and botjh dogs carry a "Sch III" title, Where does the difference lie???

No difference in obtaining a Schutzhund nor does it matter what breed of dog or even if purebred or not in the perfect world of course.

The difference lies in the types of conformation and degree of nerves/drives that show lines carry vs working lines. Lots and lots of posts on this database on this subject.

In general working lines are bred and owned by those that want to train dogs. Typically their titles are from years of work and it's not uncommon to see a working line dog titled later in life. With the working dog. it's more about the work.

In contrast the conformation line dogs have a different agenda. These dogs don't live forever and there's lots to accomplish in 6 years. Typically a dog needs to be titled by the time it's 2 years old to have time left in it's life to show what it can produce with enough time left to get some use if it produced well.

This sets up a completely different set of circumstances. Good or bad, it is what it is. At times conformation lines were typically kept until they were old enough to see if they were worth keeping. By the time this occurred a critical part of their developmental life had passed. If they turned out to be decent show prospects, it was time to get them titled. As you can imagine, taking a one year old dog and trying to get it titled to SchH3 in a year is not really enough time to train the dog to that level with scores that make it a candidate for the BSP. It's like taking an 18 year old human and putting it right into high school and expecting it to graduate with honors 4 years later. It just doesn't happen. So basically the conformation lines are titled with minimum scores while the working lines are trained to perform and get higher scores.

Things are changing and it appears both lines are improving. As the work requirements have increased and as training methods and awareness have been developed, and as breeders have bred to improve the working abilities, we see quite an improvement. The working people seem to have been working on the breed too. There are more V rated and KKl1 working line dogs out there now than there used to be.

The thing to be aware of is that regardless of line you can buy a show line and get excellent nerves and drives and you could buy a workingline pup and get a fear biter. You still have to do your homework before buying.
