I seem to be doing a lot of babysitting for Murphy the wannabe alpha male lately. Murphy has a favorite green plastic barbell that he brings along with him and carries back to the car when he leaves. Today after Murphy left I noticed the green barbell laying in the bushes--apparently he forgot to take it with him. I pointed out the barbell to my male Trigger and commented that Murphy had forgotten to take his favorite toy back home with him.. Trigger immediately ran over to the barbell, lifted his leg and peed on it. That is the first time I have ever seen Trigger pee on a toy. Trigger always seems happy to see Murphy but I'm wondering if Trigger is getting frustrated that Murphy has been coming over so much lately. Or is this just a normal male dominance thing?

He's saying. "That's my toy now!" I remember once, I was watching my friends dog with her pups, and the puppies continuously tried to take her toy away ( Which she loves. ) So, the mother, getting frustrated, actually peed on her toy. The pups stayed away from there on! lol.

It was funny. Wonder if Murphy will "claim" Trigger's favorite toy when he comes over tomorrow.

yes, please update us on what happens tomorrow when murphy sniffs his toy and finds out it has been peed on...lol...we should start a bet...willl he play with it still? will he disown it now? what do you guys think?

my guess is that when Murphy sees his toy again there could be a little bit of problem unles of course it is already clear as to who is the Alpha in this relationship. nonetheless there still could be some aggression between the two as i have seen it many times the problem starts over a "toy"'

I agree with Jeffrey.

Well, Murphy came in the back gate barking this morning (as usual) and didn't take him long to discover the pee stained barbell. He gave it a few sniffs, cast a long dirty look in Trigger's direction and picked it up. A few minutes later when Murphy dropped the barbell to snap at a few bumblebees Trigger grabbed it and proceeded to chew one of the ends off. (In two years Trigger has NEVER chewed up one of his own toys.) Funny how Murphy is always barking at Trigger  but Trigger never barks back. Guess Trigger has discover a better way to get even. My office/computer room is just a few steps from the door to the backyard just in case I need to make a mad dash outside to diffuse WWIII.
