I had my pups on Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul. They were gaining weight and doing well. My source for the food stopped being reliable and rather than continually having to change food, which I had not done yet, I went with Royal Canin Large Breed. I had read here it was good food with good results. The pups are losing weight. Apparently this food is not what they need. Do you think switching to the RC puppy ( versus Large Breed Puppy) would rectify this problem? I am very limited in the local quality food choices.

Hi Shandra!

I feed my dogs Bil-Jac Select, and they LOVE it, also I will alternate with a raw diet,
I can only tell you, that in the past I have fed my dogs, Blue Seal, Purina One, Exceed (From Sam's Club)
similar to Iams, Iams, Eukanuba , Nutro  (I think that's everything?) WOW! Looking at what I'm recalling, I don't believe it!

My dogs are at their happiest now with Bil-Jac select, until..............No wait, it's not from China....................................

You can go to my site & check out their happiness!  I have a page, What my dogs eat.........

I gotta get back to that Sox game,

Good Luck with your decision, I also only feed adult dog food to everyone, pups included.

American made,

Very sorry if I insulted anyone ..................................

My pups are 6 weeks old today. I thought adult food wasnt nutricious enough for them at this age.....

Shandra,

I have my pups on Royal Canin Large Breed puppy formula and they are doing fine in the weight department.  I do add RAW to their diet which I order from AFS on-line (you can get a link to it from my distributor who will be closer to you www.gooddogfood.net) I started them at 4 weeks adding the RAW freeze dried sprinkles with water added that made a nice mush then added the dry to it at about 5 weeks.  You can also add a small amount of yogurt to the dry and they love it!  Just make sure to have them checked & rechecked for worms on a regular basis - they can come up negative one week and positive the next.

My pup is now 4 months old and I am starting to introduce the adult RC24 a little at a time - should have her on it full time by 5 months old.  Am doing approx 50% RAW & 50% Dry with some variation of adding yogurt, cottage cheese and raw carrots as treats.  The RAW I buy has veggies & fruits along with some good nutrients added too.

Hope you find what works for you.
