A co-worker's friend's Boxer was shot 3 times by (Chicago suburbs police)  The dog was on a tie out in their yard(townhome with no fence) Some incident was going on for the police to be in the neighborhood. The dog's cable came loose from the ground and he was not far from his home(maybe a few houses away and went to greet the police officers and he was shot 3 times in the chest. The dog came back to his yard and he was crying and the owner came out to see what was going on. The owner was standing over his dog and the cops pulled their guns on him. The dog did die in his arms. Kids were also very close when shots were fired. This dog was not ever aggressive to anyone.

Now I wanted to know if anyone in this area has some advice for this family who lost their pet. Or if you know anyone who can give legal advice. Thanks

Denise

oh boy, here we go again........

A Boxer can look agressive when "coming to greet" somebody, expecially if dragging a tie-out behind it.  If the police were in the neighborhood for an incident in progress, things were high keyed already.  How the frig was the officer to know the Boxer wasn't aggressive?  No way in heck could anybody make that call under those circumstances.  Sorry for the family but NOT the officers fault!  Defective equipment or not set up right equipment that the dog owners used is at fault.

Sounds like he was one of those big slobbering dogs, waiting to greet the first
person that comes along, some people are just scared to death of dogs, maybe
they confused him with a pit-bull.

Just real sad........................

I'm with Animules 100%. It's a terrible loss when a pet dies and this would have been a shock. But, come on???  Any way around it the owners need to take responsibility for the dog being loose. If a dog gets loose it's the owners fault. Period. They don't need legal advice. The need moral advice, "TAKE RESPONSIBLILITY FOR THE THINGS YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR!" Gawd!

He was a boxer dragging a tieout. If he was a Pekinese it would be different because that would clearly NOT be a threat.
