We are about to make a purchase for a young GSD female out of germany. We have never imported a dog before...Is there any special paperwork we need to make sure we recieve with the dog to register / transfer title...ect  for her here in the USA.

I want to make sure we have all out ducks in a row to make sure we do not have any problems.....so those of you that have imported from germany before please let us know what we need to have from the seller, before we agree to send money.

Thank you in advance for all your help

Jewels you can contact me privatly

Papers normaly come a few weeks behind the dog. as long as you trust the breeder you should have no problems. CC

My advise? Don't.  There are too many great dogs and great breeders right here and too many things that can go wrong buying sight unseen from a foreign country. Do your research, pick some good breeders, get on a plane if needed and go see the dog/puppy with your own eyes.  JMHO

If  you can't get on the plane to go and see this dog first, then buy American from a breeder who you can visit. Ditto to Poppa's advice. You do not need to import a GSD to get a good dog, that's a myth.

You will need a Beischeinigung from the SV along with the pink papers showing you have ownership.    Contact Sabine at akc@schaeferhunde.de  She is very helpful.  You will need to get the pink papers, make sure you are the reigstered owner on them and send them to the SV for official transfer, request a Beischeinigung at that time.  We supplied our credit card number and had no problems.  While all this is going on, you can go ahead and get the dogs DNA done through AKC.  Just cross out the AKC registration number and note it's SV and the number.  It easy to update with the AKC number so all is done.  Time, and lots of it, is the main issue.

You need to find out how your state handles the import of puppies and rabbies shots.
