I have a dark sable dog, with brown undercoat.  I am curious if I feed him olewo, will it brighten his undercoat and leave his black overcoat alone?

I use Olewo carrots on my dogs with black and brown (red) dogs with both saddle and blanket patterned black areas. These areas remain black. Theoretically, a truly excessive amount of carrots could give these areas an orangish tinge. You would would also a yellowing of the sclera of the eyes. I have never experienced any problems with my dogs.

I use Olewo with salmon oil simply because it is good for the coats--not because it causes changes in colors.

It should not make your dog's brown undercoast lighter--maybe just a little more intensity to the brown undercoat. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "brighten".

I think "brighten" was the wrong term.  I think I have read that "brightening" points on a GSD actually refers to a dog who has almost white points?  What I would like to see is the the brown undercoat be a richer color.  I know it's great for the traditional black & reds, do you think it would do the same thing on a dark sable?  Also, I could mix it with the Salmon Oil (which I already give) and not have to add sunflower oil?

This is the dog I'm talking about.  I want to make his brown richer, maybe more red looking.

I buy the salmon oil and Olewo carrots at Dogtown USA: http://www.dogtownusa.net/page/page/3937148.htm (888-364-8961) The salmon oil costs $69.95/gallon (much cheaper than Grizzly) and 33# of Olewo costs $80! Very cost effective--even with shipping.

Give it a try. It's good for the coat and the digestion.
