I have recently switched to Royal Canine 24 for my adult dogs and like what I am seeing as far as coat and hard stool. Does Royal Canine have a pup formula? I will be sending 6 pups to new homes in a couple weeks and I'm pushing this food for them to feed to their new pups. How old should a dog be when you switch to the RC 24? Thank You in advance. Dave

You probably already know this, but be careful because some puppy food is really rich for large breed pups. I know a lot of people go to adult food immediately. I never had any luck with Royal Canine. Always runny and gassy.

Yes, I have raised my pups on the Royal Canin Large breed puppy dry kibble and am very happy with their stools, but I also feed RAW at a 50/50 Raw/Dry ratio. I had switched 6 months ago to Canidae and switched back to RC as this was the brand that I raised my 2 year old gsd's on and saw a decline when I switched off then I saw an immediate improvement in coat, weight and vitality when I switched back. There is a smaller kibble pup food and a slightly larger kibble pup food, at 4 months I am starting to introduce the adult food and will probably switch to it fully at 5 months old.

That's the problem I had with Canidae Dawg, Loose stool and bad coats. I used to feed the pups Canidae but since I don't use it any more I wonder what is best.

I wonder if Royal Canine sends free puppy packs to send with the pups? I really push top quality food when people buy a pup. I sometimes can't believe what people say they are going to feed there pup and think it good food.

Go to their website and sign up for the breeder's program, save the UPC barcodes from each bag you buy and send in 10 (I believe) and they send you a coupon for a free bag. I like the Royal Canin GSD formula because it has some really good ingredients in it (and is supposed to be formulated specifically for the GSD.) There was a thread on here recently that showed the Canidae had a few samples test positive for Tylenol.
Make sure you put a health disclaimer in your puppy contract if they are not going to feed the dog nutritional meals.
I know my girl sure has added back her weight - still on the slender side but that is her norm. Vet says you should be able to see the last 2 ribs or the dog is overweight and that new studies show heavier dogs have more joint problems - that was a no brainer!
I cannot speak highly enough though of RAW meat being added to their diets - talk about shiny coats and white teeth! I may put my girl on straight RAW for a month and see what happens .
Here is a good place I buy RAW from as they have several top brands available http://www.lizzyshealthypetfood.com/ they are fairly new distributors, I know them personally and they really want to put out the best of BARF diets. Prices are pretty good too.
I know RAW appears at first to be expensive - but you feed less and the numbers really come out about the same - all in all though, I believe it will pay off in fewer ailments and vet visits.

Also, the link to Lizzys Healthy Pet Food is working on puppy packs for customers. In the meantime I make my own up using a gallon Ziplock bag - I don't want the pup to start out immediately in its new home with diarrehea(sp?) - I send home enough for them to at least feed for 3 days, along with a small pack of FreezeDried RAW sprinkles.
Also, Petco pet stores will give you a coupon for a free bag (any kind of food) after you have purchased 10 with their store saver card.

go to www.royalcanin.us to become a member to get the puppy packs. They do make a baby formula, and puppy formula, they are both also very good. Been feeding RC for several years now and love it- never had stool or gas problems, I see great coats, muscle tone, and all around great health in both adults and puppies. I switch from the puppy to adult around 5 months.

Davinhoff, do you supplement RC dry with anything?
I add some yogurt & raw egg, sometimes cottage cheese if I'm out of yogurt at least once a week - the dogs love it! But I do try to add at least 1 pound of RAW to the adults food daily, usually I get the RAW that includes some fruits & veggies, Glucosamine & chondroitin for the hip/joint health.
I forgot about the puppy packs from RC - thanks for the reminder.

clewsk9,Hi, I hope that you mean 1 pound BETWEEN your adult dogs and NOT individually or you will be adding mega phosphorous and there is not enough calcium, etc to balance out the phosphorous.I take it that you feed the raw and kibble separetly right?PLEASE do not take this badly in anyway as it is NOT meant to insult or offend you, just thinking about the dogs
