I disagree with this author when he says:
Much of what we "know" from human exercise is not directly applicable—canine metabolism and energy utilization are significantly different from human, but many of the notions can be adapted.
After he says this, he writes a very good article based upon human training lol.
He even touches on Fartlek training. Former Heavy Weight Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield, always does his roadwork at a track. He puts in 5-6 miles with 4 laps around the track being 1 mile. He jogs his first 3 laps of each mile, then on the 4th lap of each mile, he sprints all out. This all out sprint emulates the maximum stress he will be in at the most intense moments of his fight. This training combines the best of both aerobic and anaerobic training.
