This was emailed to me.  If anyone can provide a forever home or even a foster please contact me.  He is in N. Virginia and sounds like a good boy for a family.

our next-door neighbors, a family of four (husband, wife, 2 small children) are splitting up and moving away. Their dog cannot go with them and they've been unsuccessful in finding a new home for him. "Kong" is a 3-year-old intact male purebred German Shepherd (they say he has papers). As neighbors we've watched him grow from a clumsy lop-eared puppy into a strikingly handsome adult shepherd. Although we've had little hands-on contact with Kong we've observed him playing with children, visitors, other dogs, and even co-existing with their outdoor cats. He loves to catch a Frisbee or retrieve a ball and stays close by when someone is outside with him.

Kong earned a special place in our hearts one morning when he "rescued" our daughter, Chelsea, when she was out jogging. She was returning from a 3-mile loop on our gravel road when another neighbor's dog, a Doberman Pinscher, began to growl and threaten her. This dog stood in the middle of the road and wouldn't let her pass. Kong, only about a year old at the time, trotted up and stood between Chelsea and this menacing dog. The Dobie backed down and Kong then escorted a very relieved Chelsea to our driveway. He intuitively seemed to know she needed help. Wow!

Because Kong is such a beautiful and intelligent dog, Spence & I have chosen to get involved and try to spare him a trip to the shelter. His family is moving this week so the situation is urgent. Because you have so much expertise with shepherds and have placed some yourself in good homes we thought you might know of someone who would be interested in this shepherd. If so please feel free to forward this to them. Or if you know of any reputable German Shepherd rescue groups please let us know. We're willing to transport him or be contacted for more information. We'd just like to see someone appreciate this magnificent dog and give him the time and attention he deserves.
