Has anyone ever viewed the Tracking videos made by Joanne Plumb???

If so,what are your opinions on her Tracking philosophies????

Has anyone here had success with her method???

I have the videos although it has been a long time since I viewed them again.  On my first dog that I trained with, I retrained her using these methods.  Dog never gave up on trial day despite terrible tracking conditions.  I also like the way the indication of articles are taught as well as the fixated staring on the article.  The dog is tested with the use of the serpentines and forced to track even without the bait on the top of the serpentines.  I do believe however, if you are a beginner, that someone else should be watching the laying of the track and directing the handler.  Baiting of the track when and where is really important.  Also the methods used to slow a dog down on the track are excellent.  For puppy imprinting I think it is a great method.

I think her DVD is excellent, the only thing I would demur on is the use of a pinch collar at the end, I did not see any forcing of training on the serpentines though, perhaps I missed that bit?

Langhaar,

Sorry if unclear.  I did not mean forcing as in "correction".  I meant forcing in making the dog work through the problem, working through the top of the serpentine without saying anything and not allowing the dog to cut through the serpentine to the batited portion at the lower end of the serpentine.  The dog having worked through the top of the serpentine is immediatley rewarded after "working through" the problem on the track.

I think this method of training is excellent as it is self correcting the dog has no REASON to deviate from the track.
