Just a couple of short questions about puppy ears. Has anyone ever experienced GSD puppies, under 8 weeks old, that have one ear that lies forward and one that lies to the side normally" Will they be normal usually, as the pup grows and the ears stand? A litter here, from W. German imports, has two pups that have this situation. One pup has a front pointing left ear and a side pointing right ear, and the other pup has a front pointing right ear and a side pointing left ear. All the rest of the pups have ears that point to the sides normally. Curious.

Sounds like normal 8 week old puppy ears to me. Wouldn't worry about theri ears at their age.

It is a little young to worry about their ears. It does sound like a normal 8 week old pup.

Young pups ears go every which way, not to worry until about 5 months when teething should be over or close to it.

Go to the Leerburg site for extensive discussion of ears. He basically recommends leaving them alone until 4 1/2 months and then fussing in one of a few specific ways only at that point.

Leerburg site has been very informative, however, I have two litters sired by a German Import and I waited until 4 months to tape only to wind up with 4 puppies whose ears never did stand up on their own. The oldest pup is now 8 months and has hound ears. I taped religiously from 4 months on. What a disappointment. Two breeders who bought puppies from these two litters started taping at 8 weeks and kept them taped through5 months. Their ears now stand. Please don't wait until 4 months.

Okay, I guess I was misunderstood. I wasn't expecting the ears to be standing at under 8 weeks old. I was referring to the direction the ears were lying down in. Thanks for the info that they could be in just about any direction at this age, and still be normal.

Yes it's A OK DR I had some whos ears flopped to the front, both of them. Looks silly but cute. Everybodies ears came up early and stayed nice.

Thanks four pack (why 4 and not 6, 8 or 12?). Is it the number of dogs and people in your possee? Is so, someday it will probably change to 5 pack.
