Hey all. I was told in the ring back in June that Chaos needs to put some weight on. He was only a year and 1 month old then. He was 65 lbs then, I believe. I changed his food and he is now 73.5 lbs as of today. He is a year and 4 months old now. I am thinking he is going to put on another 10 or so by the time he turns 2 and his chest starts developing. That's about where I would like him any way. What does your male GSD weigh and how old? Is Chaos about the right weight for his age too? IYO that is. I think he looks darn good and I really don't want to pack it on fast seeing as how his hips have not been xrayed yet.

Your right He shouldnt weigh any more than 65 to 69 lbs for his age......to much weight is not good too fast.....too many people want a pudgy pup.....hes still a pup and needs to gain slowly......
Have you measured him according to one of the other threads? Im gonna go measure mine just for fun 65 is the max
I have not a clue what the weight of anyone is I dont even get on a scale dont even own one......I just judge by sight....."I walk by Faith and not by sight...." and my dogs never go to the vet...Rabies is done by clinic of Ag.....at a very cheap rate....

Trigger weighed 95 lbs at 2 yrs when I got him and I think he's still growing almost 2 yrs later. (He will be 4 in December.) I plan to take him to the vet next week so will find out what he weighs now--I'm guessing 105-110 lbs. Best I can determine he is 63.5 cm at the shoulder and isn't overweight at all, just heavy boned with a wide head. I say he must be still growing as I had to buy a bigger collar for him this summer. It's a 26"collar (the longest I could find at the time) and is on the last notch. People think he must eat a lot but he doesn't. I give him 3-4 cups of dry Iams plus about a cup of real meat added daily which he rarely even finishes. He gets no treats during the day and usually a few milk bones in the evening. Now that I've been trying to work him everyday I think he might be getting too skinny but he has more energy now and never goes hungry so figure he must be at the weight that is right for him.

I weighed my boy last March, when I got his hips prelimed; he was 1 yr. and 3 months old and weighed 86#s. Before anyone starts yelling at me, he was at a perfect weight because of his build--he is DDR and WG working lines. He goes in Monday for his OFAs and I will put his current weight on here then. Here is a pic of him at that weight and even lying down you can tell he is not overweight. I think to have the proper weight it depends on how your dog is built.

I just weighed Jager on Monday and he was 78 pounds at 1 year. Which is great becuase when he was 9 months the vet said he was 84 pounds and I was really worried that he was going to be HUGE, but then I found out their scale had some issues and was replaced!!!

I agree that weight has a lot to do with build. This is Trigger at 95 lbs when he was 2 yrs old and don't think he is overweight at all, just heavy boned with a wide chest and big head.

If you can feel the ribs through the dog's skin but not see them your dog is at a good weight. The best weight would depend on your dog's build and size.
