I HAVE ALWAYS OWNES GSD, BUT NOT BETTER BREED OR WORKING LINES. I HAD A WORKING LINE WHO JUST PASSED AWAY. HE WAS THE MOST INTELLIGENT DOG I EVER KNEW, WE OWN A SMALL FARM AND MISS HIS PROTECTION FROM INTRUDERS AND UNWANTED WILDLIFE. IM NOT INTO SPORT TRAINING A DOG . UNFORTUNATELY HE WAS EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE AND COULDN'T BE APPROACHED BY OTHERS UNDER ANY SITUATION AND THIS WAS A PROBLEM SOMETIMES, TO HIS FAMILY HE WAS AFFECTIONATE. I WOULD LIKE TO BUY ANOTHER DOG, BUT IT IS VERY CONFUSING. I LOVED HIS DRIVE AN ENERGY, HIS KEENNESS, HIS DEVOTION. I HAD TRIED A TRAINER TO HELP WITH AGGRESSION BUT THAT DIDNT GO WELL. THERE ARE SO MANY BREEDERS. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL

It would be very helpful to let people know if you're looking for a German Shepherd with Showlines or Workinglines...and maybe even if you're looking for a male or a female or maybe it doesn't matter...But there are also other considerations that you might mention...and that is...is there a particular color or anything else that you might let people know that you're looking for in a new dog...also are you looking for a puppy or an adult dog...?

yes, i would like another german shepherd a pup and a male. i would like a dog who will protect me . i like ti hike long distance, live alone in a secluded area. my former german shep was a great at this but had bad temp issues and was terrible around kids. i exposed him carefully when he was little. i know everyone on this site may be out of my league, but you all seem to have alot of knowledge on the breed

This site is comprised of people who are German shepherd lovers, both hobbiests and professionals. Please do not think anytone is out of your league and thank you for your inquiry.

I guess the next question is where are you located. Perhaps this can assist us to help you.

I LIVE IN DELAWARE. I DO HAVE AN INTEREST IN SAR WORK AS A LOCAL MEDICAL VOLUNTER. JUST SOMETHING IM GAINING AN INTEREST IN. WHEN I LOOK AT ADS FROM BREEDERS I FEEL CONFUSED. THE DOG WOULD MAINLY BE A COMPANION. WORKING LINES SEEM TO HAVE SUCH INTELLIGENCE AND ALERTNESS. PLEASE NOTE  IM JUST BEGINING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT BETTER BREEDING QUALITIES. BUT AGGRESSION IS A BIG CONCERN I HAVE A GRANDCHILD THAT VISITS. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU BUY A DOG WHO IS REALLY REPUTABLE?

Finding a puppy who will grow into a serious protector is a difficult thing to do.  If you get another GSD, be it puppy or grown dog. You must remember to try and not compare it to the dog who passed on.  Some people try to replace a beloved dog and want the mirror copy of their previous dog. This never works out as they are always comparing the new dog to the dog they lost.

If you get a puppy, check out both parents, and see if they are what you are looking for. If they are not, then move on, as a puppy out of them wont meet your expectations either.  Take your time and check shelters and newspapers as well.  A yearling or an adult who shows a protective nature, might be better for your wants and needs.

Out of all my high dollar dogs, the best protcector and guard I ever owned was an American-German bred male that I purchased out of the newspaper for $50. The woman we purchased him from said he was very gentle and wasn't a good watch dog.  After we had this male for a few months he bonded with us, and his true personality came out. This half Busecker Schloss, half Covey Tucker Hill dog was The Real Deal.  I will never be able to replace him in certain aspects. Each GSD has their own special personality and must be appreciated on their own merit.

THANK YOU, I KNOW ALL BREEDS HAVE GREAT QUALITIES. BUT GERMANSHEPS HAVE SUCH DEVOTION AND LOVE TO GIVE BACK. I KNOW I CANT REPLACE MY PAST DOG. I JUST WANT TO MAKE A MORE KNOWLEGABLE DECISION WHEN I DO LOOK FOR A NEW COMPANION
