please note while reading, this is not a pit bashing! This is about strays, the safty of my kids & dogs...it just happens to be that the strays i deal with are 99% of the time a pit or a pit mix......

recently, I was told by someone on this board, that it was hysteria like mine that caused people to think bad of pits...because i said someone near us must be breeding/ have some, cause sooo many stray ones keep coming in my yard....aparently this person did not believe me... so i told them i would take a pic of the next one that shows up...well one showed up today.....

I worry about my kids and my dogs safety when any unknown dog show up, esp when its a large breed male they would more than likely fight my male dogs...

when i woke up this mornin, my little girl had let my little dogs out, boss was in his kennel....I woke to to all of them goin nuts barking...the dog was right in the front yard...i got my little ones and put them inside..then i went back out and took these pics, now the dog does seem nice enough...wagging his tail and wanted me to pet him...he is very skinny and i wanted to feed him but i know he wold never leave if i did that- been there before...the dog tried to go towards boss's kennel (where boss was going nuts!) I kept shooing it away..then the neighbors let their dogs out and it went over there, they were fighting through the fence...while it was distracted i grabbed boss and brought him inside, i was worried the dog would come back  to him and even tho he is in a kennel, i guess he could damage teeth and muzzle/ nose, by fighting thro the fence....so here is my GSD question--when i got boss inside- he threw up twice and he hasn't ate yet...could the stress of that dog having him worked up all morning cause that?

Im gonna post the pics seperate --I think this is prob already to long--

does anyone have any suggestions for what i can do about this dog? I can't let my kids go play, I can't let my dogs out to potty...I hate feeling trapped in my own house...

some of you may remember me talking before about our town finally getting a shelter...i was gonna go volunteer there, my hubby and I went to go check it out and its not a shelter! ugh!! they had alreay turned it into a exercise place,--"curves"--like we don't have enough gyms in this town...

OH God! Give Curves 2 months they will be ot of business, thats what happened here anyway. I thought to myself..."if I had purchased a years membership, what would have happened to the $?"

If you have pet stores, ranching supply or groomers places go around asking/snooping. Maybe someone knows who has all the pits. Your best bet is to find the sorce yourself. Turn them in if they need it.

Please don't take this wrong, but I truly believe and honestly believe that Pit Bull's have a bad rap because of their owner's and people. In 2004 I went to our kill shelter to pull a Pit Bull/Lab mix out before they put him down. He was around 1 1/2-2years old. He has an awesome temperament. I took him to adoption events and a few people were interested in him until some rescue groups pulled them aside and told them to NEVER get a Pit Bull or a Pit Bull mix. I could not believe that they did this. Well, we have had him for 3 years now, and we call him our GSD wanna be. He is very good with our dog's, and very protective of us and our property. I took a huge chance in taking him in because I did not know his back ground, BUT could tell he was NEVER in any fights as he DID NOT  have any scares on his body anywhere. I have had pure Pti Bulls come into our yard as well. I gradually walk out there and act like I'm ignoring them, I had one actually start charging me, and I stood still, well needless to say he lifted up my hand and started to LICK IT!

I personally love pits, but I do see you as having a serious problem.  I sent you some email.

The problem with confronting the owners is that I've never personally had an experience where they listened.  The dogs would not be running loose in the first place if they were reasonable.  Veronica

Sorry hit the button This Pit Bull seems absolutely harmless!! NO scares to show that it has been in a dog fight. Almost every dog no matter what breed will fence fight if there is an opportunity to do so. I am sorry but I do believe you are over reacting a little bit by keeping everyone in doors, and thinking how you are with this dog. If the dog did no harm to you out there taking pictures, and getting Boss into the house then I wouldn't worry. I would let the kids out there if you want to, but not unintended by any means, dog or not, the way this world is. I have also had Pit's growling and barking at me as well. They were stray's, we have a lot around here. When they act that aggressive towards me, and I'm not being a threat, then I just go about my way. I do agree with 4pack. You need to go around and find out who this dog belongs to. Hell, I would put the Pit in my truck and stop everywhere to see if the dog belongs to anyone. I have done that before to. I just think you might be getting worked up for no apparent reason, but only because it's a Pit Bull. Now if the dog was being aggressive towards you, and your kids then I would worry, but it has not, nor does it have any scares on it's body to prove it's a fighting dog.

I feel sorry for this dog and you. I am not a fan of Pitts, to many of them lose. It is a shame for the breed. i wish people would stop buying them so the good breeders could correct the temperment and reestablish the breed. Until then I want no part of them. I do know a few of them I adore, but I would not trust them. I to have had to live as captive in my own home years ago, neighbor had one and he was an escape artist, I can not tell you how many times I called them at work to come get him. He was fine with 2 leggs, but killed anything with 4.

No I would most likely NOT confront the owners. I would call the proper authorities and let them deal with it. Who knows who they are or what they are like. They could be weirdows and stalk you or come poison your dogs out of spite. If you find out where the dogs are coming from let the proper authority know. If you have no AC I guess you would contact the Sherrif.
