I am looking for a trainer to train my female for a SCH1 and SCH2, as well as KKL1.  I am looking into the possibility of shipping her to germany if I can get a better trainer there.  I was wondering if you guys knew of any good trainers here in the states, or any good ones in germany, along with their rates.

Hi

I wonder why you ask for a trainer i germany, are they supposed to be better than other?

Why don`t you train them yourselves and save the money? it could be up to 5000 usd that`s what i charge for these titles in Denmark.

There are good trainers both in Germany and the US. There are also some that are not so good. Check references and do a web search to see if their names pop up with any results. More important, make sure your dog is a dog that will title.

Sending a dog for training is a quagmire. The quagmire starts with you and what you have done to preapre your dog. If the dog is a year old and knows nothing. You have set yourself up for the worst. A good trainer is usually full of prepared dogs on their way to good titles at reasonable costs.

Your dog may be a superstar and able to go to highschool without having gone to elementary school, but most can't. Those dogs and owners fall victom to a situation where they go to a trainer that promised everything under the sun and has no results to back up the claims and the dog sits until the owner runs out of money or they go to a decent trainer as a project dog that takes lots of time and effort to hopefully get a title on.

Do it yourself....... That's great if you have the time and a helper that can get you through the process. Be prepared to mess up a couple dogs in the process of figuring out how to title a dog and what a good helper is. It's not as easy as some think.

The problem is compounded by unrealistic expecatations. Most expectations being the dog, any dog, can get a title in 6 months. Sorry, some can, but the house dog that's a year old is not going to be one.

I suggest having a dog evaluated by a good trainer and see what foundation work needs to be done before sending a dog off. Most trainers expect a dog to be correctly on the sleeve when it arrives. If your dog is not. It's a project dog.

The best trainers, give the dog time to bond to them first. I have been so incredibly fortunate in having Ulf Kintzel (US) and Peter Woersdoerfer (Germany) train my dog. I got the same dog back that I sent, with spirit, zest and gusto for life.  I would have never sent my dog into the unknown.  I recommend these people without reservation and wholeheartedly.  And for me to do this, says alot because my dog is my life.  In the US, I would recommend for SchH titling again without reservation Ken White in TX, with whom we are currently working.  When you have good, there is no going back.

Good luck!

Do your homework:

(1) Get written references fom people that you trust.

(2) Have a written agreement with the trainer.

(3) Inquire how many "training dogs" the trainer is committed to work with daily. Often the trainer is working with one or two of his own personal dogs. To do full justice to your dog, the trainer should not have more than 2-3 "client dogs" (including yours). Not having done my homework properly, I once had my dog with a trainer in Germany whom I later learned had some 40 dogs to train/title/breed survey!

(4) Avoid the misunderstandings that often come with sending a co-owned dog to a trainer. Remember that it's your money and that you are the one to call the shots and to communicate with the trainer.

(5) Find out from people who have had their dogs trained/titled with a specific trainer whether this trainer will communicate with you on a regular basis and accept input from you regarding the dog's training needs. It's pretty sad to receive a call from Gradlyn to advise you that you may expect your dog to be shipped the very next day. In the meantime, the trainer has not called you regarding the dog's progress or his plans to return your "titled" dog to you.

(5) If the dog you wish to have titled is a young, adult female, have her reproductive abilities evaluated by both a thorough physical exam and bloodwork. IOW, are her heats normal, does she have a vaginal stricture, is she hypothyroid, is she free of genetic bleeding disorders, is she free of GI problems (EPI, SIBO), etc.

(6) Be sure to discuss your feeding preferences with the trainer.

I may recommend certain trainers to a few friends--realizing that a trainer who will fulfill my expectations takes in a limited number of dogs (usually already on the sleeve) and may have a waiting list. It is worth waiting a bit in order to get what you want and are willing to pay for. If you have definite advance reservations with a trainer, do not back out of the deal.

The BEST trainer in the world.......Ivan......lives in Plant City, Fla. He takes and trains dogs. If you question wether or not he's the best.....He won the AWDF, FMBB and the FCI....not in his whole lifetime.......THIS YEAR!!!! Most trainers would be thrilled to have ONE of those Championships....HE HAS ALL 3 at the same time!!! If I was to send my dog anywhere.....my search would start and end there!!!
