are there any bones that are ok to give to my dog , when cooked? we are big meat-eaters, always bbq-ing and i am constantly throwing away bones, just wondering if im wasting some that might be good for my dogs to chew....

I always supervise my dogs with cooked bones.
Cooked bones can splinter in the dogs' mouths, and I don't let them have tiny pieces they could choke on. Beef bones are generally okay, but pork and (obviously poultry, which should never be given cooked) seem more prone to splintering, IMO.

What wrong with cooked bones?
by Silverbolt Prime on 12 September 2007 - 00:09
The can splinter, causing damage to the mouth, and esaphagus and stomach if the dog swallows the pieces.
My dogs love cooked bones, but I'd never let my dogs chew on cooked bones unless I'm there watching the bones aren't shattereing and the dogs aren't eating the pieces.
Raw bones, on the other hand, can be a wonderful dietary suppliment, and do not require supervised snacking.

Some of the Merrick dog foods (canned) have cooked bones in them.

no cooked bones no vitamins in a boiled bone why do you think we feed them raw...for the nutrients in them not boiled away dogfodd has all of nothing in them,,,,,,canned dog food ? What is that.....the only time I use that is if a dog is sick or a pregnant bitch gets puppy can food in her raw with kibble and all the extra for the Choline....
I know three people who paid a 1500.00 vet bill to get a bar b q rib bone out of intestine as his Schut 3 dog was bleeding to death from the rectum as he celebrated the SchuH trial on the way back to Houston from San Antonio years ago......another gave hers a pork chop bone ,,,,,1, 0000 later at hospital geting intestines sewed up....\
Nothing in a cooked bone to give it one anyway so why take the chance.???
