I have a problem with the tail on one of my pups, there is loss of hair for about 1 inch, and the tip seems  to be infected and slightly enlarged..the pup is 2 weeks old.I thought perhaps the mother had chewed on it , but after close observation i don't think that is what is happening. I am using a cream that is helping, but i wonder if anyone has experienced this problem. Thanks for any information.

where the hair is gone, is the skin grey?  I've seen  puppies like that, i think it's some kind of fungus but im not sure...from what i've seen, if you catch it early enough, most antibotic creams  or antifungal will clear it up, but i would go to a vet and make sure.....when i was a kid, a dog of mine had a litter of puppies under a shed. It was weeks before we found them and by then the ones that were running out had these weird spots on them, grey patches- missing fur, some had only stubs for tails, whatever it was had eaten the tails away.....some of the puppies woudn't come out, finally one of my brothers got brave enough to climb under there and get them.....we were horrified to see that they had legs missing, one i remember only had one leg left....it was reallly awful....my mom said that she thought it was probably rats that had gotten to them, big field rats.......

about a year ago, my couison and i found two pups on the side of the road...they had these spots on their toes and tails to....my couison kept one of the pups and the vet told her it was cause by the envoirment the puppies were born/ and kept in....which to me can mean just about anything...fleas? rats? dirt? poor milk/feeding? anyways, not sure , but i think she just had to keep it clean and put some kind of cream on it.....

take the pup to the vet.  Why guess about it?  Find out what the problem is, and then you can treat it.
